…….. apparently the M18 was actually holstered and discharged when the holster was removed and placed on a table. SIG has really screwed this up, not just the design issues but response to multiple almost irrefutable events of the P320 series discharging in normal handling scenarios, included whole holstered. In a policing situation it will at times be IMPOSSIBLE for the holstered sidearm not to be pointed at someone. Australia just adopted and took delivery of P320s to replace our Browning Hi Powers.

 

As a Native Floridian, I can confirm this.

 

On my Navy ship we had our own Security Force, as we had no Girines. We had a constant roving guard walking the ship, carrying a holstered Colt M1911A1. I was on this force most of my time aboard. We had one individual who somehow got through Electronic Warfare tech school, but was dumb as a rock. Somehow got onto the Guard Force. Once late at night, he went to do his halfhour check-in at the quarterdeck. The OOD noticed his pistol belt was missing. He'd left it in the head!
Another time - his final time on the Guard Force, he came to the quarterdeck for watch change, removed his pistol belt... and accidentally dropped it over the side into the water! "DOH!" We were able to use a big horseshoe magnet (from a radar unit) to fish it out. The guy was immediately kicked off the Guard Force.

 

I wish I had been a young man with a decent job back then.
