As a youngin, I was Designated Flashlight Holder, until I learned enough to start wrenching myself. Then I wound up the family mechanic/carpenter/electrician/plumber and general DIY Repair Guy!

My Dad would let me help him ,, my Dad built utility trailers for extra money back in the early 70s. We'd go to the junk yards and take off spindles from cars so he could build the axles. He worked for a power company,, so he got all the free galvanized 2" angle from them metal power line towers.
On Saturday morning,, we were changing the tires on one of his trailers ,, and gonna take a load of trash to the dump. He gave me a wrench to put the lug nuts on with . On the way back from the dump,, my dad driving ,, said ,, look at that tire going down the road ,, then he looked in the mirror,, and got pissed at me for a minute ,, he never locked'em in with the 4 way.
He had me cutting metal,, grinding the galvanizeation off the metal so he could weld it. Them chip and grind the welds for paint. I was to young to get the hang of stick welding ,, damned rod kept getting stuck.
