Funny how Flys pay attention, seems when I pick up the swatter to hit one, they all scatter.

 

I look at that picture and can feel the timbers trembling under my feet as the waves slam the pilings.
That was August 19 2025 at Atlantic Beach, NC

 

Hang tight out there ,, I haven't really been paying attention to it ,,, is it supposed to come ashore out that way ? I know with them waves , there's gonna be some erosion for sure .

 

Just a little inland you'd never know there was a storm off-shore. It was a beautiful day today. This morning I was standing in a Food Lion parking lot, and looking inland the sky was Carolina blue. Toward the beach it was cloudy, but still mostly sunny. We had some complete cloud cover, but mostly it was pleasant and sunny.

NPR reported that "Major highways were affected by the storm surge."

"Major Highways?" Like NC12 on the Outer Banks? It was overwashed early on. It's a two lane road that runs along a strip of sand for 148 miles. That's not exactly big news to us. No additional overwash at high tide this evening, so it'll be business as usual soon.

This storm, fortunately, will be over soon and won't bring inland flooding on a sunny day a week from now like other storms have. That's the only real advantage of coastal life during storms. By the time all that water gets to us it has found rivers and streams that exit to the sea, so we rarely have flooding that lasts long after the rain stops, and never after a long delay like lots of inland areas.

 

Yes sir , I've out there on Hwy 12 after a few storms,, I've been there right after a storm when the storm split the island in 2 ,, completely washed out the road,, they had the dozens out and pushed the sand around and made a road that looped around the washed out part ,, so they could start rebuilding the road. I wonder how many houses that beach is gonna reclaim this time ,,,
