Might well be considered a 'script item here in AK, The Good Samaritan law specifically prehab's a list of things (c) The immunity provided under (b) of this section does not apply to civil damages that result from providing or attempting to provide any of the following advanced life support techniques unless the person who provided them was authorized by law to provide them: (1) manual electric cardiac defibrillation; (2) administration of antiarrhythmic agents; (3) intravenous therapy; (4) intramuscular therapy; or (5) use of endotracheal intubation devices. (d) This section does not preclude liability for civil damages as a result of gross negligence or reckless or intentional misconduct. Stiches are considered 'surgery' under a different section of Alaska law.
the stiches and staplers are for me and pikka. basic emt 1 skills are covered, some 2 level skills. as a emt 2 if your active in fire/ems and dept. sop allows, the Samaritan act covers you. as a emt 3 it does not. and you have a duty to act and perform to emt 3 standards. i served 10 years fire, 6 years ambulance corp. your point is valid if its a stranger and you chose to intervene stay with basic life support till next level of care arrives. basic airway/breathing, bleeding control, and cpr if the pumps not pumping. being a level 3 is a risk. i was one of 330 i think in the state. its messed up. as a 2 i could start a iv but needed another cert to test blood sugar, a finger stick. ambulance core sop covered it fire didnt. unconscious/unknown can be done with basic skills. narcan nasal spray, oral glucose, and breathing assist. yep stay in your lane. my skills are for me and mine. altruism sucks and will get you in trouble. alot of places wont ship to ak.
