Motivational Poster Thread (warning content)

In my high school (early 1970s here in North Florida) we had a couple of gay guys who openly held hands. They were also bullies! They tried bullying me, until I actually knocked them both off the top of a set of bleachers on top of a small hill, sloping down behind. During PE. I made sure Coach didn't see. Those queers avoided me after that. I was a Big Kid and didn't tolerate bullies. I once dropped one over a second floor railing, no witnesses. He landed on a thorny bush, that I had forgotten was there.

 

I remember one kid from down the road who graduated in 1975. Everybody called him "Homo Joe" even though his name was David. I was never convinced that he was homosexual. I thought he was just a huge Elton John fan, and when you dress like Elton John on a rural school bus in the 1970's you got a nickname.

 

Yeah, kids can be cruel. They haven't learned to hide it as well at that age. Or don't care, because it's never been directed at them. Yet.

We had a bunch of "Most Likely to . . . " and "Best . . .", etc. type awards at the Senior Banquet. All the usual ones. But along the cruel lines, a few people came up with a couple more, like "Most Likely to have a sex change operation". That was in 1976.

Dang. Fifty years next May. I'm too young to be this damn old. Sorry, response drift.

I knew one guy in 9th , or 10th grade,, back in the mid 70s ,, that a few folks said he was queer. I knew the guy ,, never hung out with him,, but he was always respectful to me ,, and I was respectful to him . I never seen anything that would make you think he was queer .
And then 20 + yrs later ,, one of my old friends asked me if I remembered the guy ,, I said yea ,, and he said he heard the guy died of Aids ,,, which was no proof he was ,, but maybe he could have just gotten a hold of dirty girl .
So ,,, that was just 1 person in my 1st 15- 18 yrs of life ,, that I may have known a queer person .
But in the last 10+ yrs of life ,, if I'm in one of them big cities ,, it seems you could see a couple of alternative lifestyle folks on a daily basis . It's sure gotten a little crazy since the 70s ,,, I sure do miss some of the old days .
