By the time I had the opportunity auto shop was full, but most of the kids in there only farted around, the teacher was not all that on board.
High school was simply frustrating and left a bad taste in my mouth for higher education, as if high school was any step toward it.
I learned far more on my own, learning things i wanted to learn and working construction at age 14.
IMO high school years might be better spent working at different jobs like trade schools to see where ones aptitude lies. Kids need experience in several real working environment to weigh their options more equitably. This and you may eliminate the dross.
Kids that do well may actually fall into a real job they like.
If school is to continue with these the have a foundation with which to work.

At 1st sight ,, I thought those mounting screws were bullet holes ,, thinking the guy that shot at that deer ,, will never get a real one ,,,

 

just payed $2.45 been below 3 since Trump took office here in SC

 

I took Industrial arts ,, and woodshop in Jr High,,, I like working with my hands ,, I did well in those classes. But my Dad was an electrical engineer for the big power company. ( that electrical knowledge my Dad had ,, didn't flow into my brain housing group ).
By high school ,, I was not interested,, maybe I was in the wrong school,, to many rich kids ,, I didn't fit in . The only thing that interested me then was Auto shop ,, lunch, and girls. Everyone went to lunch .
The girls were interested in rich guys , and fancy cars . My car wasn't fancy. And auto shop was full of rich kids , that had new , hot rod cars ,, that mom and dad bought them ,, and paid for all the fancy hot rod equipment for them to put in their cars.
So ,, I quit ,, I went to work ,, took high school completion classes ,, which wasn't but 2 classes ,, which I'm glad I took them,, because that was 1 obstacle I didn't have to deal with when I joined the Corps .
Still working the trades ,,, I just wished I wasn't this old ,, with the amount of money the trades are making today,, it would sure be nice.
One thing I do regret never trying ,, that I wanted to do, was offshore well drilling. That seemed like good money back in the 70s.
