You tube had a report on a company based in Grants Pass Oregon that has announced that they are moving to Arizona. While they were founded in Grants Pass, they have now grown to at least a regional company. The difference in tax rates, with the saving in Arizona, regulations, climate charges, etc, for all practical purposes forces the move. The governor, very liberal, is very upset by the loss of both tax income and well paying jobs. Her answer is the state needs to pass laws that keeps companies from leaving and punishes them for laying people off. This is a very good study of one isolated company and its impact on an isolated workforce and real estate market. What has been happening in the politically correct states with their progressive rules and regulations is hard to quantify. Making it a limited study in a isolated market allows the real problem to be quantified. The first effect will be the loss to the region of about 1600 plus direct jobs and perhaps thousands of secondary jobs. It is expected to double the unemployment rate from about 7% to 14% and cut the tax payment to the area by about $20 million. The city is already cutting infrastructure as it is a good part of the budget. The basic source of the problem is that the progressive state needs the money to fund its policies and to satisfy its liberal base, must require rules that penalize businesses and charge for the costs of climate change. While the state of Oregon has done so, other states haven't. The Democratic answer to this problem is to make the changes federal and prevent the moving to more favorable states by making the changes federal. Thus there would be no advantage in moving. Might put some companies out of business, but we know what is best for you.
Strange the video is no longer available... Yeah, it is not only the loss of Tax revenue from that company that the state will lose but they will also have to pay out unemployment to the1600 folks that loss their jobs and all the tax revenue from those individuals since they probably will not be paying taxes given they are out of work, so it is a triple whammy or more. Typical response by Democratic government. Frankly, I hope they go through with it at the state level, give them the rope to hang themselves. They have zero chance to even get it to a vote at the federal level.
I think if you click on the watch on you tube it will come up. That usually shifts it to their base and they can get "credit" for it.
Oregon was a pretty good place when Tom McCall was governor. Then the Californians started arriving en masse.
Then companies will be forced to raise prices, close, or shift jobs and manufacturing overseas. The states still lose.
Got to wonder - it's down the road probably 15-20 years from the company's beginning >>> a whole generation of Oregonians - can they hire a decent OR resident work crew? - are they hiring illegals and now ICE is sniffing their butt hole? - is the move not only to improve the state GOV - but also the local workforce situation?
There should be a law transplants from other states can not vote in state elections for 5 yrs. These liberals from Cal are ruining the states they are moving to
Government regulations and lawsuits are the reason that almost everything is made overseas these days. It's just too much hassle to operate in the USA. We can't produce oil, build refineries, mine and refine minerals, or build power plants, pipelines, factories, roads, bridges, ports, railroads, etc. without the government or some two-bit judge screaming "HALT!". It's just easier to go abroad. This area used to be lousy with " T-shirt plants" that employed a lot of people, then in the 1980s and 90s they all closed and moved to Mexico. The reason, costs were cheaper, no government regulations, no lawsuits, etc., they either moved or went out of business. About the only way to operate a business in many states today, is to be a Mom-and-Pop operation, or smaller. that escapes notice, or to be so big that you can make your own rules and regulations.
While I can or cannot speak to as how transplants vote, prohibiting someone to vote for five years I would think is a blatant Constitutional issue. As I remember it around 1776 some folks here in America were awfully ginned up about not having a vote or say in their government.
The company referenced to in the O.P. is Dutch Bro's Coffee, ( My Brother is besties with the founders) and they chose to leave Oregon for the same reasons every business leaves Oregon, TAXES! Oregon is openly and extremely biased against small businesses, their taxation scheme ensures no small business can survive long past the honeymoon period, let alone thrive! Add to that, employment demands, such as DEI type requirements, and now, Minimum wage increased to nearly $20.00 pre hour, and your $3.50 Cuppa now cost $8.25, and requires a mandatory tip, unless you manually opt out of it, and that is automatically set to 18% at the minimum, you can pay more if you like, but the 18% is baked in! Finally, the state regulations, Oregon has some of the most insane requirements, especially on food service businesses, so doing business in Oregon is a losing proposition, and if you think the big guys are immune, Intel just laid off more then 3500 tenured workers, whilst retaining foreign work visa/green card holders get to keep their jobs, so the locals who live in the area lose their jobs, while the visa holders keep theirs and somehow, that continues to drive the economy down the flusher that much faster! Think of it this way, to work at intel, you need to live somewhere close enough to make sense, no two hour commute, housing around the various campuses starts @ around $200K for a lease or condo, and an actual home, nearly half a million and up, so the tenured staff ( Starting salary @$96K per year) can afford this, but Visa/Green card holders average salary is about $65K, and now they cannot afford to live near any of those campuses, so the state kicks in and subsidizes the cost of living, but only for the foreigners, and not the actual residents! Nike is the exact same thing, in an area that over laps Intel at a pretty significant number, so Nike lays off a YUGE number of staff, and the number of available living spaces has nearly trippled, and yet you and I cannot afford to live there, meanwhile, the cost of living within those areas has sky rocketed, with small cubbyhole retail spaces, such as a Dutch Bro's Cofveve kiosk paying more then 80K a month in space rent, Interestingly, Starsucks ( Or as we call them here, $9 Bukz) used to get subsidies from the state, but the last 2+years, they now pay full pop for their stand alone stores, with rental space in a few of those sub divisions, like Cornell Place, or Hawthorne Farms adding up to well over $100K PER MONTH! Hell, Walliworld and COSTCO have been in talks about closing down locations in that area, that's 4 walliwirlds and 3 Costco's within a 10 square mile area! Way to go Oregon, a drag race with Warshington and Californication, and we're near the top of the pile at the very bottom of the heap!
So you would advocate for someone who does not live in your state voting for how you may have to live your life?
How about we get rid of the 535 do-nothings non-representatives and replace it with AI modeled on the Constitution? No, ifs, ands, or buts just black and white law. I wonder how long that would last? LOL! North Idaho is growing at a remarkable rate due to influx from California - yet - while most of us were very, VERY leery of these transplants, we have found they are much more conservative than ourselves. On my road alone, all the immigrants are Californians, and all are hardened conservatives - about 10 families in the last 10 years out of the 31 families living on the road. However, I cannot speak for other locations, but this is my first-hand experience here.
List all Zionists and Communists to be domestic terrorists and enemy combatants. Round up all the Communists and Zionists and deport them with the illegals and build a real wall with auto cannons. Every last Congress critter, every "Representative". Every Leftist Governor, every single Democrat Judge. Once again charter all corporations for no more than 10 years, then require them to dissolve and sell their assets, dividing them among their shareholders. Add term limits to every government employee, Local, State, and Federal. Remove all lobbying from Government. Require political advertisements to be limited to public broadcast stations in equal amounts. Leave a 2000 yard dead zone on the Mexico side and routinely test napalm at random intervals. Problem solved. Since we're daydreaming...
I would agree with you. Not only are they bringing conservative values they well know the trouble leftists can bring. They become very active in local/state politics when they see it to prevent them from getting a toe hold.
What I am interested in, and is sort of off topic, is whether the DNC actually funds individuals and/or organizations to establish themselves in Red states for the purposes of infiltrating all levels of state and local government, stifle conservative views and policies, and general chaos. I mean, are they funding Antifa type groups? Or, if an individual or organization supports Antifa individuals/groups but supports the DNC also can we assume they are one and the same legally? Seems to me to at least be a strong possibility...
I have no doubt that they will receive support in those areas. They run a massive Psyop operation because it works with the young and useful idiots. All they are trying to do is gain a toe hold. Once there they can start expanding their operation. It is especially effective in school systems. Access to young and very impressionable minds is a gold mine for them.
,,,,,,so they are moving to az to get away from progressive policy? good luck getting past hobbs. Arizona's 2025 Gun Bills: Key Laws And Legislative Changes
