    How do you like your new job and schedule so far? It's amazing that you're still showing up for your morning classes. A commute can feel like a saga in itself. I used to commute from Olympia to Federal Way, Bellevue, and Fife. I do NOT miss JBLM traffic.
    Travel safely.
    I'm thinking of you and hope these will be good changes for you. You showed up in my dreams last night... Gave me training tips. Thank you :)

    Welcome back to work! How is it so far? I hope you're pacing yourself and staying hydrated. It's wonderful that you got to spend all that quality time with your wife.

    Happy St. Patty's Day, everyone! We had our longest power outage since I moved to the tropics. It was less than 48 hours and I happily got to enjoy a hot shower, power, and all the amenities at my off-grid dome. A giant Ohia tree fell over and thankfully, didn't do any damage, but the wind did a number on some of my roofing panels. There is much work to be done, but there's something special about owning land and a home in cash... Especially an off-grid one.

    On another note, I harvested the potatoes that I grew in bags and am happy with the yield. 12 bags grew 97 viable potatoes!

    I'm on week #3/12 of my current training plan and love this structure, but it's intense! This is the last week of the pre-phase phase and then I'm starting phase 1.

    I love March 17th because magical things always happen on this day.

    Coach was ill again so I taught on Thursday and Friday. Friday we had 8 total which is a decent number. The technique we worked on was called a “gift wrap” which opens up a lot of submission opportunities. It’s also a great way to just control someone that’s being a jerk. Lol.

    Gift wrap looks thoroughly effective and painful. Have they added you to payroll yet because it's sounds like you're a regular instructor now! That's awesome and 8 seems like a great class. Even numbers for practicing and pairing off.

    I started phase 1 after 3 weeks of pre-phase and this "phase" is focusing on strength. It's higher weight with less repetitions. I'm just starting to grasp this concept of training for strength because so far I think I've been doing endurance and hypertrophy style workouts. I like getting more rest and being able to lift more weight.

    I reached another milestone this week and can do 2x wide grip pull-ups from a dead hang now! Hanging leg raises are not so hot and I can only lift my toes to the bar once or twice, but I'll get better with practice.

    I'm also cooking more meals and have been enjoying the time in the kitchen.

    I'm thrilled. Things are going so well and I have so much energy, these days. I'm reading "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah. It is a historical fiction novel about two sisters who take different paths to survive during World War II in Nazi occupied France. It's exquisite and heart breaking.

    What are you reading or listening to? Do you have fun plans for the weekend?

    I have family pictures today. I have a big bruise on my nose that my daughters claim they are going to cover with makeup. (I might have to fight them both) I hate these things of course but after 10:30 AM or so I’m as free as a bird until Monday morning. I’ll be sharing all the pics with SM on the first of the month.

    I think the pay is in the form of free membership. I don’t even have that yet, lol. The gift-wrap is great, control is always number one in grappling and that’s great control. The finish isn’t far away in most cases too. Ouch!!

    Wow those are some early family pictures. Are they sunrise pictures? I guess this isn't very early for you with your normal training schedule and all.

    I think it's beautiful that you guys do this even if it is a pain. Just this morning, I was thinking about how we used to take family pictures like that and how in my travels I don't really have pictures with me from my childhood or the past. I know that I have some photo albums, but they were stored in a barn stall about 7 years ago in the PNW so I'm not sure they survived the elements...

    I used to have a strong social media presence with epic pictures of everyone, but then I got rid of that too. Thank goodness, I'm still here in this active little corner of the internet.

    I'm sure it will be fine with or without bruise cover-up. Enjoy the freedom afterwards!

    This has been a solid training and nutrition week for me. I got a notification that this is my 100th day in a row of logging all of my meals on MyFitnessPal. I even logged those days that I'm less proud about, but it feels good to hold myself accountable and take responsibility for my choices.

    I'm getting ready to do my last workout of the week and then I'm free! Hope you'll enjoy the rest of this weekend!

    I’m back teaching this coming Tuesday and Wednesday. Next Friday I have an appointment to see what’s going on with my left side hip. I was ordered to have it looked at, lol. None of my YouTube fixes have worked. Oops.

    I'm glad that you're having your hip looked at especially since it has been bothering you for awhile now. I always try online and youtube fixes first too. We're all about longevity so sometimes that means seeing the professionals. You have a regular teaching schedule now That's awesome!

    Hope you are all having a good April so far. My training schedule has been a little weird because I would rather be outside gardening, but I'm still fulfilling my daily movement goals so that's good.

    I’m considering starting my own small company, PES-D. Public Employee Self-Defense. I’m tentatively scheduled to do this class (for free) at my current employer, future classes upon desire. (Or not if I bomb!) The idea of course is to avoid confrontation and win them over with charm and good-looks. (My speciality, lol.) If unavoidable there’s a couple of takedowns and control. Step 3 is a fight for your life, all bets are off. I go back and forth in my brain between a brilliant idea to really stupid. Stay tuned.

    I think that would be amazing and you should definitely do this. It's so practical and could save a lot of people. When is your first trial class? I doubt you'll bomb it! Oh don't forget Step 4 Run if necessary. Keep us updated!
