One of the biggest challenges General Eisenhower faced, in the months leading up to Operation Overlord, was the insistence by both the British and American air forces, that heavy bombing would win the war, and a ground attack was unnecessary. And that was during a war when bombing had few, if any, limits on what they could hit.
Then take a look at the bombing and shelling of the shore facilities the Germans had built at the Normandy landing zones, and how relatively ineffective it was. Same in the Pacific, with the bombing of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. It still took a landing, under heavy fire, to effectively neutralize the enemy.
I don't want to see our ground troops in Iran, but I'm afraid if we can't get them to talk peace, that's what it's going to take to defeat Iran.

Funny how bombing works. In WW2 Germany had a little toy called the 88 mm anti aircraft gun. We see all the pictures of the B 17 flying at 30,000 feet. Bombs within a few hundred feet of target from that altitude. British bombers flew at 18 to 24,000 feet and flew at night. The 88 made it impossible to fly in daylight at 20,000, the losses were just to high, Flying at 30,000 feet in the daytime still resulted in most bombs missing by hundreds of feet and sometimes miles. The fighter aircraft destroyed more aircraft, but the fight was at 30,000 not 18,000. While we bombed their cities into rubble, they kept fighting. I am afraid that using very expensive weapons to destroy Iranian targets will destroy their ability to fight at a distance, it may not break the Iranian ability to resist. Could do it with nukes, but that is not politically possible. Back into Iraq again. Not good vibes to destroy the village to save the people. Drones and shoulder fired missiles changed everything and I don't know what will happen. Trump is fighting a multiple front war. Democrats in USA, China and Russia, UN and its nations, cost of war as we use a million dollar missile to shoot down a 4,000 drone, no real depth of stock in the high tech missiles due to those expended in the Ukraine, lack of production facilities to ramp up production, and a lot more that I haven't listed.

I think that the situation in the straits indicate that if you truly want to stop the attacks, you have to put boots on the ground. Realistically you often have to fire more than one anti aircraft missile to stop an airborne attack. The Burke class destroyer has a stock of around 100 than has to return to a port for reload. Sending another carrier it the area. It is going around Africa just to be safe. Israel has not been able to stop the attacks on their country and while we can destroy the infrastructure, we have had little luck in the last 50 or so years in actually winning a war. We seem to be trying to be dig a hole in the sand. We can dig a hole anywhere we wish, but if we leave, the wind or tide fill it in. A F-35 with a guided bomb, an aircraft carrier, and refueling aircraft, can destroy a pick up truck any where in Iran, but how many trucks can we afford to destroy?

 

The Amerikan taxpayer can afford to use a million dollar munition to destroy a 5 thousand dollar pickup truck for a really long time. The taxpayer has unlimited pocket depth as long as they keep having kids.

 

Problem is the old Afghan one. American was talking to an Afghan prisoner. He said I am fighting you, my father fought the Russians, for generations before that we fought the British and the Russians, if needed my sons will fight you.
We win the battles but lose the wars. Iran has been around in one for another for about 2500 years and has managed to maintain a sense of being a people. They don't seem to know when to quit. Our history seems to be that you can't defeat us, but you can bleed us to death and the people or those in charge, cut their losses and declare victory and leave.

Yeah, my hope is the CIA is doing its job for after Brennan, who knows... Hopefully there remains some opposition to arm. They estimate 130,000 Republican Guards remain so it will be bloody during the take over and after, whether it succeeds or not, a lot of people are going to die.

However, if Trump/Congress puts ground troops into Iran then I suspect the blowback will be so bad that it will ruin Trump and give everything to the Leftists Commie Democrats. He knows this so... So, I haven't a clue how this is going to end or how he intends to end it. The key is getting opposition in Iran, if there is anyone left, to rise up and take down the government but...easier said than done, especially after 47 years and a government that will kill you, your family, and all your friends just for blinking.

 

my gut tells me Isreal was going to go in and use a nuke on them and we stopped them because that would just be a bad precedence ... and we said we'd joint bomb them.

They suckered us big time. Now we have a big ass mess.

Just have just let them go it alone. Then there would only be a smoking mess and there still wouldn't be any oil coming out of the middle east. That would have been way better outcome for us .. well except the nuke use part as that would free up Russia and North Korea to FAFO.

I will give you, from what I know, Laura Loomer appears to be a nutcase so much so, I am not sure who or which side she is working. Furthermore, the rants against Tucker, Owens and Kelly - well - I have made my feelings clear about them. I think Trump should apologize, even invite all three for a sit down at the White House.

However, we always expect our Presidents are not human - meaning - without human frailties or traits. He is under impossible stress, most of his policies have been, in some way, shape or form, been stifled or stopped. He hasn't come close to getting done what changes he has endeavored to do. Sure as hell Congress isn't going to change anything. Now, on top of everything we got this damn war which the Iranians don't give a damn how much we hurt their people or nation; basically, they're too insane to quit. Yeah, it's a mess.

As far as the nuke codes...I toss the BS flag. Probably, a rumor started by a Blue face commie from California or New York or Illinois or...one of them. Besides, the nuclear code system doesn't work that way.

Hmm...Israel is a really smart country. No choice as they have to be. If they were to use a nuke, they would lose all World support and opinion, to include the US, and the political fallout would be as bad or worse as the radiation fallout over Iran. No, I have to disagree. As much as they would like to nuke them, it would have made them the outcast of the world, the pariah. No, they are surrounded and require, at a minimum, the support of America and nuking Iran would be the same as nuking themselves.

 

Oh they didn't need to nuke Iran. They just needed to convince us (The United States) that they were so we'd beat up the local bully in the region.
And we fell for it as we probably did the last handful of times.

Isreal has been saying that Iran was weeks away from a nuclear weapon since the 1990s. We keep falling for the boy crying wolf.

We should have let Israel fall on it's sword by itself.
