Speaking of park access...

Decades ago I had some little black girls stop me on a bike trail and insist that the trail was restricted, no whites allowed. I was fascinated where they had gotten this notion and waited until an adult from the neighborhood arrived and shooed them away, apologizing for their behavior. My explanation that I wasn't "white," I was "colored" with tattoos, but mosty pink, and light brown where the sun had tanned my skin may have helped the adult when those kids went to therapy. since I had seriously messed with their young minds.

Near present day: #1 Son, who is also a pink, slightly tanned, bald, bearded, mountain of a man gets called to a blue house on a law enforcement matter. Woman tries the "You're only doing this because I'm black..." line.

Tired of his usual, "Ma'am, I got a call to respond to a blue house, I had no idea who lived here..." response, the boy once tried something new.

Without skipping a beat, he said "Ma'am, my husband is black..." and just proceeded to inform her of the situation, and what she had to do.

He said it worked so well that she was totally diffused, and left standing there with her mouth open.

Later, laughing about it with his beautiful, tiny wife, they talked about what he'd do if anybody had challenged him about "his husband." He had the perfect response at his fingertips. On his phone, as the screen saver, is a picture from his wedding.

Hilarious to me, he had a "Second-best man" as well. The picture of the three of them standing together, best friends since they were little, is an easy sell.

Makes me feel old to think of these 6' 6" men as "little."
