    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

I'm glad you weathered it ok!

I am still doing the 30 minutes of swimming, 15 in hot tub, 15 more in the pool to cool off. I got 15k steps yesterday and my watch logged 250 active minutes.

I am almost finished upgrading my infrared sauna and my plan is for it to be online by tomorrow night. It will have a much bigger phone booth sized enclosure and red light therapy.

You have such an awesome routine. I always love the way that swimming feels like moving meditation. Great job with your high step count too!

Who knew that power outages could feel so tiring? It feels like I haven't been very active, but I am getting steps, but trying to conserve energy. Went down the mountain for the first time and it really looks catastrophic / post-apocalyptic. Tons of power lines down, fallen trees, trees fallen on people's homes. I feel thankful that we are okay, and am praying for everyone else.
Hysteria seems like it's starting too hit. It's nice to be removed from most of it.

I got back up to 22,000 steps today and it felt good. 4th day without power, but focusing on my blessings.

Stay safe over there. Folks do get goofy after a few days in the dark.

Thanks! The closer we get to town, the weirder it gets. The latest update is that it might be at least 2 weeks before power is restored in my area. I might have to have a candlelit birthday.

Focusing on the good and the blessings. My step count is going up so I'm happy about that. Hope you are all doing well.

If it ever stops raining for a few days I can mow some "dry" grass for once this season.
Great workout, but it's insanity because the grass never stops growing this time of the year.
I mowed on Sunday and it's now Thursday and the grass is already too tall and needs mowed.
Nothing like living in a subarctic rainforest in the summer.

A short story from class. There’s a fella I’ve been working with for about 9 months, quite honestly I smash him to pieces. This jerk put me in a guillitine Wednesday out of the blue, had me 95 percent of a tap out! It was incredible! I’m not good at that move but typically I can defend it. I did everything wrong in this particular case. Oops. I did finally pop my head out, proceed to smash him once again. Lol.

Phew, that was a close one! I'm glad you were able to get out of it and smash him. Out of the blue? Just like that?
It sounds like he's been training with a winner!

Who knew that doing so much less during a power outage could feel so exhausting? This is day #7 without power and I'm hoping that it's fixing my circadian rhythm? Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that I'm not being an overachiever during these weeks that are supposed to be rest weeks.

I feel spacey, tired, unfocused, and unmotivated. Hopefully I'll feel like myself again soon.

They also announced that we are getting hit by another tropical storm tomorrow. Lots and lots of rain. I'm hoping that we won't have the 75 mph sustained winds like we did last weekend.

Yesterday 3 electric cranes arrived in Oahu which is good news, but it might take awhile to get to us.

Hope you will all have a wonderful, safe weekend!

I’m hearing about crews from California and beyond heading that way. Hopefully you’ll have relief soon. Stay safe.

If I was considering expanding my training gimmick beyond my own employer what would I need to do? For example, a business license? Insurance? (Just in case) An LLC? A Facebook page? I have many many connections in public type industries so that part is solid. Thanks.

    Zimmy Wait, I'm not ready!

    18,000 steps total today,

30 minute swim and 15 minute sauna at 6 am
55 minute swim and 15 minute sauna at 6 pm

I am whooped. I suppose that is the goal.

Thank you! It worked. There was a giant crew working on our lines on saturday and our power was restored around 4:20 pm after the 7 day outage. I'm so thankful. Up until that point the message was that we probably wouldn't get power until after September 8th. That would've been 17 more days.

Yes! You should definitely start your own business. I started with a sole-proprietorship (my businesses were digital), but there are benefits to opening an LLC. Let's make it legit. Washington state is pretty awesome for business owners tax wise. Do you use a.i. at all? I highly recommend Chat GPT by open ai just don't provide any personal info (keep things general). I like working with Claude A.I. by anthropic. It can walk you through the whole process step by step and get very quick and helpful answers. It's super awesome. Self-defense, right? Hopefully I didn't mess that up. Lol.

This is a little list to get you started:
Starting a Self-Defense Training Business in WA — Checklist
    1. Business Structure

    • Form an LLC (recommended, not required) — filed with WA Secretary of State, ~$200
    • LLC separates your personal assets from business liability — important for anything involving physical contact/training
    2. Licensing

    • Register with the WA Business Licensing Service → get your UBI (Unified Business Identifier) — $90 base fee, $10/year renewal
    • Check your specific city for a local business license (Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, etc. often require their own on top of the state one)
    • Note: teaching self-defense to the public is not a state-regulated profession in WA (unlike security guard work) — no special instructor license needed unless you move into armed/security guard training
    3. Insurance

    • General liability insurance — look for policies through niche fitness/martial-arts carriers (e.g., Sadler Sports, K&K Insurance)
    • Professional liability, if giving specific safety/tactical guidance
    • Workers' comp — mandatory in WA the moment you bring on employees or other instructors
    4. Legal Protection

    • Signed liability waiver for every participant before any physical training
    • Have a WA attorney draft or review the waiver — enforceability varies by state, so a generic template isn't enough
    5. Marketing

    • Facebook page / social presence — no legal requirement, just business building
    • Lean on your existing connections in public-facing industries for early referrals
Suggested order: LLC → state business license/UBI → city license → insurance → waivers → then start marketing.

I hope this helps. I'm not an expert, but can definitely try to help you find answers.

Your routine is amazing and 18,000 steps is so good! Keep up the amazing work. Training for life!

P.S. I'm not going to be shocked if I start hearing about you doing triathlon style training. Even relay style can be fun (someone swims, another bikes, another runs.)

I'm so happy that our power was restored on Saturday. Still no internet (9 days), but I'm thankful for this hotspot. I definitely feel weird and anxious, but yesterday I went for a 5 mile jog and it felt good. Hope you will all have an amazing week!
