a community self-defense question

Two recent news stories highlight what I'm trying to say. In one, a burglar in Washington broke into a business after hours in order to steal and was confronted by the armed owner. The business owner shot the burglar and is now being sued by said burglar. Even if the owner wins, this is Washington, he's gonna be out a lot of money for legal fees.
In the other case, an off-duty security guard shot and killed a 17-year-old as he was walking toward a sporting goods store with what appeared to be a Glock handgun. The man got out of his car and confronted the teen with his Glock handgun. The teen dropped the gun, explained that it was just a defective BB gun that he was returning, then turned to walk away. The security guard fired 10 rounds striking the teen 7 times. During the trial the security guard claimed that he had acted to prevent crime and save lives....he got 25-years. It isn't too late for him to consider suicide.

 

not exactly feeling bad for that security guard - sounds like he shot that BB gun kid in the back 7 times ;;;;;;;;;

 

7 of 10 times is excessive in my opinion,,, the kid dropped the gun before being shot ,, turned and walked away ,,was the kid shot in the back ? A double tap should have been sufficient,,, then reassess the situation.
I don't know ,, don't get me wrong ,, I support the police ,, and I know there's a bunch of shitbags they have to deal with out there ,, but a lot of these cops these days are egotistical thugs. They treat everybody like a guilty criminal from the get go.
That's why now days ,, if I have to deal with them ,, I give my ID ,,, stand where I'm told to stand ,,, and shut the fk up. Ain't answering no questions,,
In my AO ,, we have,, or had about 3 of them that have been accused of planting evidence,, dope in cars a of a few people,,, but I haven't seen them in a while ,, and when I ask another cop about them ,, they clam up and walk away .
The cops mottos have changed from " to protect and serve " ,,, to I don't know what these days . But they sure do carry some pissy attitudes these days.

 

I think that the greatest consideration is, "Is one willing to sacrifice ones life for the sake for others?"
I grew up in a time when heroes stepped into the line of fire rather than cowering in the shadows.
That time is about over I guess, because most folk run away from trouble rather than facing it.
Who is left to make a stand even if one is seemingly out numbered?
Life is not a popularity contest if life values are on the chopping block.
Ruffle a few feathers, it makes them think.
I know we've had a few here that seemed to be trouble makers, but you have to admit they may us show where we stood.
