Another deer season draws to a close...

This is what we have to deal with !! I call them "Field Rats" , we have so many and they will NOT cull them down. Buck , doe behind and two fawns in the houses bushes.(Im 8-10 feet away in my car , talking at them thru my window ) They don't care.
I can count 5 to 8 per trip to the village. Today there were kids walking back home after school and I stopped u-turned and told kids to get on the other side of road away from Buck. I waited till the kids made it past and would use my car for a shield .
Cross bow out of window , instead of phone !! But town folk are dumb, they think meat comes from the supermarket !!

Come rifle season i plan to take at least 2 doe with the supressed .243, first chance to really hunt with it.

 

Deer that size are few and far between in my AO .
I've not done any hunting in a few yrs ,, but I was out behind the house at the creek bank a few days ago ,, there was a pretty good worn path paralleling the creek ,, gonna put a out a trail cam and see what's passing thru.

Been seeing a good bit of rabbits hoping across the road lately.
Been about 5-6 years since I've been home for any period of time . Been working at the coast for a while . Just now starting to feel like I'm getting back to normal.
About time to brush up on my wild game recipes .

 

Boom!!! neck shot, Sausage deer right there!

 

I just got back from the UP visiting family. I almost got the biggest deer I've ever seen at 5am.
She was like 800# and darting in and out of the roadway. I was on the binders as she darted off into the bush.
And by deer, I mean moose!
60mph to 5 in short order.
Man I am glad I didn't hit her.

 

Cancel that car insurance and see how fast you pee-lay one

Ole Crafty seems to be getting pretty good at the meat harvesting technique ,,,,

 

Just saw that Michigan will allow the use of necked-down rifles/cartridges this hunting season in the Mitten. Previously they had required shotguns or straight-wall cartridges. Now ALL legal calibers are allowed!

 

If you happen to want a straight-wall cartridge, there’s loads of them available now on local gun boards!

 

Here is my grandsons target buck this year. He is 7 now. Last year he got an 8 with a 20 inch spread. He shoots a Winchester 1885 in 223. 4x scope. All the ones he got last year dropped staight down. Last year I had him watch me skin and quarter, this year he does half and I will do half.

 

It's so satisfying to see the next generation being trained right, to carry on our hunting heritage! Bravo, Grandad and Grandson!

 

He had to agree to take this one also in order to get his target buck. . Part of what I am trying to teach him responsibility about "herd" management . You can't just take good stuff in life, you gotta learn how to deal with and manage the not as good.

When you clean him like Edward Sissorhands with all those blades you have look for an old injury please.

 

. We also have in my little area what i call "clown head" genetics. I've tried for generations of deer to get it cleaned out but they still managed to stay ahead of me. The clown head ones produce some really odd horn shapes, always on that same one side.
