For some reason, our hummingbird feeder just recently started attracting a bunch of bees. Is there a trick to keeping them away?
My mother sprays them with the garden hose. It keeps them away for 10 minutes or so. She said there isn't really anything else you can do. Unfortunetly, those bees are too dumb to figure it out and the need to be pollenating plants, not plastic! She doesn't rely on just feeders alone to attract hummingbirds; she planted their favorite flowering bushes after a few years of watching what plants they were attracted to.
You might even hang it on top by the hanger itself. It works in doorways, too. It also keeps them away from you if you have one hanging out of your pocket. I've tried many brands and they all seem to "make" the bees try to avoid who or whatever is attached to the dryer sheet. Maybe it's all just been a great coincidence, but they've worked for us every time!
Or are you just wondering how long I'll walk around with a dryer sheet hanging out of my pocket! I'll try it on the feeder.
They work for mosquito's too.....I"ve rubbed down with one, then put them in my pocket...... Told one of my friends in Houston that JUST got power back on Monday about it, and she said it was the only thing that kept the buggers away from her.......
he he...aren't most hummingbird feeders hanging in front of windows so you can enjoy them while washing dishes? There goes the allowance!
