Name one TEOTWAWKI sit. that doesn't involve martial law?

The only one I can think of is an all out nuclear conflict that decimates the US armed forces.

I'm currently reading Rawles' "Patriots" and I'm only half way through it, so I'll give Rawles a break, but so far, no signs of any jack boots.

I can't see it playing out this way.

We currently have 3 million men at arms with 120 million to choose from should a draft be initiated.

We know they practice and are prepared for martial law.

They had US armed forces involved in Katrina and they've been commenting on the need for a greater role for the military in domestic affairs for years (where is the ACLU when you need 'em)

I'd love to hear opinions on this, but IMO, if you're expecting [shtf]
You'd better be prepared to blend in and look like just another poor bumpkin living in the country.

    I've served 11 years. Untouchable. <----

As for the different situations, well there are a number of natural catastrophes which may occur, but eventually martial law will be invoked/enacted due to the circumstances at hand (New Orleans). As far as how Hollywood has somehow managed to "predict" future events (Lone Gunmen episode = 9-11 attacks is a great example), I would say that we might be looking at an alien invasion, either realistic or simulated (MIB, Independence Day), or possibly an asteroid ELE event (Armageddon, Deep Impact) -I don't know...

I am only concerned about my little chunk of dirt and the slight amount of influence I have (in a positive way) on my society. I can't really change the entire world, and I seriously doubt that dwelling on this will help any either. Just try to stay positive and turn the bad scenarios into an advantage. I mean, hell...living without electricity and the breakdown of our social crock pot of poo doesn't really sound all that bad to me. Most people can't even imagine the complete freedom which comes from dropping all of their idiosyncrasies and just tuning out of the system. It's a revelation all should experience.

    Could not agree more. [winkthumb]

As far as martial law goes. If it ever happens I really think they will have to worry about the cities more, and don't think that I'll have much to worry about. There is no way they will be able to cover every square mile. The town that we live outside of has 3 or 4 cops. The county don't have many more deputies. On avarage there are only 2 deputies on duty at any given time. The county is 926 sq miles. The Feds and state would have much bigger fish to fry.

And what do you imagine martial law to be? military police and Judge advocates handling day to day law enforcement? shooting looters(could be a good thing, you just don't have any control over ending it)If we are talking hunting incorrigibles and quartering troops in homes there'll be a mess. But anytime the socialstructure falls apart the fall back point for tptb is the military structure, with even civilians being shot for disobeying a command that kinda' thing.

Could be a good thing... or not.

Katrina style seizures - not so good.

A door kicked in because someone heard my rifle (contraband) or saw the deer carcass in my yard?

    Restrictions on travel?

Maybe something like my Dad experienced in WWII Europe: Fascist troops knocking on the door cleaning out your food storage for "the cause".

All I'm saying is that being prepared should include a plan to handle martial law:
What will you say when they come knocking?
How will you blend in to not attract attention?
How will you cache - not from looters, but from troops with metal detectors, FLIR, search dogs, etc.

I don't have all the answers to these, but I think they're important questions.

Well Im just not a big fan of Martial Law period..if they inact it and confiscate guns and this and that..even temporarily..well look at NO after Katrina..I mean the cops collected guns they found "registered" guns left in homes and the NRA just now I think won the case forcing the NO cops to return them to their rightful owners..(and I imagine they will drag that out as long as they can)..bottom line is cops dont want anyone to have guns..they want to have the guns..peronally Im not a law breaker, (never even had a speeding ticket)...but with out my guns in my house at this time (500k jobs a mo lost) etc..u know sooner or later the crime rate will have to rise as jobs go, ppl lose houses and incomes to feed themselves..I mean it can get alot worse than the occassional druggie wanting to rob u so he can get his fix very easily..depression/anxiety over their situations..I mean to some ppl they have lost everything and thier credit is ruined..I mean its one of those 'what have I got to lose" times for alot of ppl..and its going to get worse..my guns give me comfort at a time like this and prob for the next yr or four...I have more guns than I ned and havent even shot 60% of them..this my part maybe an overkill ..but then ..if the economy totally collapses..and one actully has gangs going from house to house..I mean look at the gangs in LA..drivebys..senseless murder over jackets or shoes today..they should have implemented ML there yrs ago if they decide to do it..LA is the place to start..half the ppl in this podunk town I live in have crim records and still have s/a pistols..laws dont seem to affect the ones that in a "situation" would do u harm.the dope dealers on my corner laugh at such things....I have actually seen them shoot thier 9 mm's in their front yard..(altho there is a law forbiding firing a gun within city limits)..u wont get their guns because as far as the govt knows they have no guns..maybe its just me but I dont like me and mine being more or less defenseless to them ..the picture of a wolf eyeballing a helpless lamb comes to my mind..wouldnt want to be the lamb when the wolf gets hungry

    What a great discussion!

Personally, it seems like the current operative is to divide and conquer -- if the nanny state can get your nanny-dependent neighbors to turn you in, their job is 90% done.

Look what they did with the Koresh (sp?) group in Waco. The whole world hated the "child molesting, gun toting radicals" and they "deserved" what they got. Not sure if anyone knows the real facts -- I sure don't.

Our problem may not be the puppet politicians but the controlling news media that shapes the sheeples' opinions.

The time for complaining has well since passed, and the time to prepare is upon us. When the day comes to act, those with the fortitude and capacity will do what they must, but no matter what -the world will change...we will change. Those who cannot adapt will suffer or die, as is the will of nature, so to is the will of mankind.

And there will always be a positive aspect in all of this, no matter how much negative can be witnessed.

If ML is put into effect I don't see the media telling the tales of those that refuse to bend over and take it. As one mentioned, it will be distorted as to not garner support from others that might stand up if someone else does. you will have to use your head and see through the media's lies at it will all, ALL be propaganda at that point.

If martial law is imposed there will be "lists". Lists from federal, state and city agencies of "troublemakers", "subversives", "unreliables"... and if you ever annoyed a government bureaucrat, put your name on a protest letter or participated in a demonstration you're on a list. The authorities don't need millions of troops, they'll go down the lists one by one, each one getting a visit by an investigative team for "further evaluation". They will have overwhelming force available if they run into resistance. Plan in advance how you can convince them that you are just another law-abiding, obedient sheep.

    THAT is my point exactly.

Good prep involves consideration of ML.

In which case, you'll need good caching and the ability to fly a good false flag.
Looking a bit poor, disheveled and daft can go a long way.
Being off the beaten path will help too.

The "out of my cold dead hands" people will get exactly that.

So when the Humvee's roll up for your "interview":
Torn flannels,a broken down trailer and a reply of
"Yes, young man, I used to love that ol' rifle and ice cream has no bones"
Trumps fatigues and confrontation in this situation.

    Excellent post.
I too would rather die than be taken to a concentration camp.
But the point is that a little deception can go a long way.
You have to pick your battles.

Solzhenitsyn made that point; if only the Russians had banded together the NKVD would have been powerless and there would have been no slave labor camps. So how many of your neighbors will stand with you when the martial law squads come around? How many will turn you in? Now you understand why I mostly plan to act like a sheep.

The hard part will be that there will come a time when you must, for your freedom, for your life or just for the sake of whatever you believe to be your soul, react suddenly and violently against the agents of tyranny or submit to them forever. Unless you decide in advance at what point you stop playing their game and plan and prepare in advance for what you will do then you will always find it "more reasonable" to submit. Remember that tyrants depend on that attitude.

Re: Name one TEOTWAWKI sit. that doesn't involve martial law

    Hmmmmm...
Interesting question, and interesting points of view as well...
Personally, being on the "primary" list of those to delete, (nice word huh?) from "society's ill, as I am on 'disability'
I go to the front of the RED line?...
I'd just continue on, with my: have nothing, in nowhere, Arizona, and let them search...and search,.... and search.....
There are various ways to defeat "anyone" from finding your food, and supplies, as well as your weapons.
There are places, mountains, that have some small caves and such, that are heavily imbedded with iron deposits. Fools' gold, or, (Iron Pyrite), is a great thing to defeat metal detectors...
When "they" attempt to scan areas, "they" ONLY look for LARGE masses of metals and liquids which react nicely to their probing devices.
The object is to move everything at least 1/2 to 1 mile or more from your immediate area, and place items in areas not likely to be suspect..
EG: a small lake will hold firearms quite well, and not having to be too deep, and encased in poly type materials do very well.
So do foods and other items you wish to conceal.
Many areas have things no one wants to play with, like poison ivy/poison oak areas, and so forth.
I personally choose the 'jumping cactus', or, "teddy bear Cholla"....nasty but very effective to keep others away. ( the jumping part is all fictional!)
Now, I also found that by spreading around a lot of scrap metals, can lids, pull tabs, nails, etc, it is a nightmare for anyone searching the immediate areas.
Now as for the rest, I'll play it by ear.
I'll make my camp area look like I'm some old gomer, ( not too hard to do now!), out in the desert panning for gold or the "Lost Dutchman's" mine!
I'll avoid all areas around any lakes, and dams.
I've been saving tin cans, and lids, for at least 4 years now, ( a lot!), and I plan to scatter a bunch into various piles, around my site...and burn them, to look like trash pits for incineration...
    Let them look there!
They can dig to the center of the earth and find nothing, because it will all be diversionary!
Same goes with several piles of rocks I plan on using to mark off "boundaries", where someone MIGHT think I'd have something hidden there inside one of them.
    Nope!
    Not there either!
I may have an old beater rifle, a .50 cal muzzle loader and a few ounces of powder and percussion caps for them to get...but that's all they'll get!
The object is to apper to be harmless...
I won't even have a radio, nothing at all, but maybe a dog, a lantern, some matches, a few candles, a few cans of food, a few canteens of stale water and a makeshift stove over a pit made of rocks!
Everything else will be far away and hidden, so that only people I know and trust, (family), can get to the stuff, if needed.....
AND, did I forget to mention, you'll need an ultraviolet light source, and ONLY at night, to locate the cache's!??
A friend of mine has his cache's stashed away inside a junk yard!
Now that's gonna be a job, for anyone to search through that mess to find his stash!
I plan to live in an area where there are but a few trees, not for cover, as I don't care for lightning, but just for shade in the summer months....
The way I see this is, the major routes, from all cities will be closed, eventually, to CONTROL the population from moving....
Where I am going, the roads change every time it rains!
    No signs, nada but desert.
I don't have to go within at least 20+ miles from any town/city, even to get water supplies, or when out hunting....
Having been there several times, I see that very few people even go out into the area, because there's just no reason to, nothing there to see, or mess with.
Now, as far as the rest of the story:
I'd personally avoid any large lakes, coastal areas, and such....
    People NEED water!
Try finding some in the desert....so why go looking for people that will have to come to "them"?
"They", won't bother to waste the manpower, they'll have their hands full with controlling largely populated areas and a LOT of P.O.'d people!
I have to think on the subject a bit more.....
    Bill
