Mega-earthquake Risk For West Coast, US And Canada? Seismic Slip Linked To Tremor, With Implications For Subduction Zone

ScienceDaily (Feb. 2, 2009) — In the last decade, scientists have recorded regular episodes of tectonic plates slowly, quietly slipping past each other in western Washington and British Columbia over periods of two weeks or more, releasing as much energy as a magnitude 6 earthquake.

The slip events coincide with regular occurrences of what scientists call nonvolcanic tremor, which showed up clearly on seismometers but for which the origins were uncertain.
Now researchers from Italy and the University of Washington have concluded that both phenomena are signs of the same processes taking place about 25 miles deep at what is believed to be the interface between the Juan de Fuca and North American tectonic plates.
"We are now more confident that the tremor and the slip are both products of the same slip process," said Kenneth Creager, a UW professor of Earth and space sciences and a co-author of a paper describing the research being published Jan. 30 in Science.
The findings could have major implications for megathrust earthquakes in the Cascadia subduction zone, an area along the West Coast from northern California to southern British Columbia. Megathrust events are huge earthquakes, often in the range of magnitude 9, that occur in areas where one tectonic plate is forced beneath another.
The slow slip events appear to be building stress on the

Yup, like there's not enough to worry about, well.... there's the good news and there's the bad news:
Good: no need for any more haircuts...
Bad: What was left has begun to fall out!

Not to mention the predicted weather patterns surely to be exhibited during the polar shift and the cosmic alignment, also scientifically proven to be occurring. Then we have the dastardly attempts from secret black-ops programs (HAARP, CHEMSPRAYS), which only add to the mix. Although the latter is less provable, and our uncertainty as to what level of involvement the government has doesn't help prove our case...we still have to stand in awe when these things start happening -and the only people who dare claim to be right are the climate retards like Al Gore, who blame "global warming" by pointing the finger at industry and commercialism while ignoring that HUGE, bright object in the sky that never stays constant and is always changing.

It is relatively simple to predict an increase in volcanic activity, violent weather, and increasingly extreme temperatures given what we now know about the political agendas and the real scientific data. We can also expect larger government and perpetual taxation...this stuff is kindergarten material, really.

When the quake happens just remember to open all of your beer bottles first or make sure you allow sufficient time for them to calm down or you'll spray your beer everywhere. Nothing worse than watching a major seismic event with death and destruction involved and then loosing all your beer and ya can't get anymore.

    Take care Be safe Poacher.

Maybe if a quake that big happens, it will kickstart the economy and we won't need a new war!
