I have seen this said many times in the past and in general I disagree. If what I have in my hand is a handgun then thats what I'm going to try end the fight with. Every second you stay in a fight you greatly increase your chances of losing. So end it as fast as you can, don't prolong it by trying to get to another weapon. If I have a knife in my hand and your close to me you can bet I'm going to try to stick you with it and not run for another weapon. [dunno]

I agree with Semtex, even if OGM has a point about using what you've got in your hands. If you're working in the field, you can't always keep your rifle strapped to you (try digging up potatoes with an SKS hanging off your neck).

That's the reason someone invented pistols:^) Empty your magazine at the perps on your way to your long gun of choice, which you've hopefully kept close by.

Wheelguns are touted for their reliability but I have to relate one experience:

At a range, saw one lock up tighter than a (fill in the blank). Had to take it to a smith - turns out a reload didn't have the primer seated deep enough - that's all it took so be fussy about what you feed (ANY) gun with.

That means that it was not the weapons fault, but the individual that reloaded the round itself. I myself have seen this happen time and time again when it comes to people who give reloading a try just to save a buck.

The message is (of course) use factory when there is a real possible need and reload for practice.

I have decided the best handgun is a Remington 870.......yeah, I know. But I would prefer this over a handgun in a close quarter situation

<style></style>Have to agree with you, my Winchester Defender with an 18 inch barrel and a pistol grip can be concealed with a heavy jacket on. Surprise your dead!!! Faith No More song and the truth with a shotgun.

As far as handguns goes, revolver in 357 is the way to go.

Paper, Rock, and Sissors. Anything that shoots will trump a handfull of rocks most the time.

I agree, use what you have on hand. But you try engaging a target that is sending fire from a distance outside the effective range of your handgun or shotgun.

6 one way/half a dozen the other. Just remember that a smart person doesn't want to be up close when they are going to kill you.

Agreed but thats why I said in general I disagree. No use in trying to shoot someone 500 yards away with a 9mm. Around here shots past 50 yards have to be across a field.
