Hate that!Been looking hard for 7.62x39 for me and a buddywho just bought his first SKS....my paltry 500rounds is just enough to make me feel nervous.
Folks with thousands stocked for plinking are still competeing for rounds,(Is it fair to wish they'd let somebody else get a chance to get their hands on it? 1k in tins for a "reasonable" price is all I ask..[dunno]). [beat]

    On The world wide 7.62x39shortage

Most commercial wholesalers have indeed had their stockpiles wiped out. There have been isolated cases where there is a ready supply but most of the nation still has had to do with their private stockpiles. Rounds affected have included 7.62mm, 5.56mm and the .50 caliber.
As near as I can tell, other than the dates listed above I don’t see an end in sight for the shortages. I’ve tried getting ahold of several of the commercial manufacturers, but so far both myself and others have gotten relatively non-descript answers of “soon”. I was able to find this somewhat dated response someone got from Wolf apparently indicating that by late March there should be plenty of ammo back on the market. However, this being late March and ammo still nowhere to be seen, I think we can declare that a fairly optimistic viewpoint.

In reading on many websites, I find mentions of supply returning as anywhere from "soon, late such&such month" to as long as "two years"......
No idea who's right. I have enough socked away for awhile, but my sport shooting has been severely reduced, so I do NOT run out! I'm still reloading, especially my military calibers - as I can find bullets and reform longer hunting caliber cases. My primers won't last forever. Neither will my powder. And now, I am afraid I will lose my ONLY local reloading component supplier - Sportsman's Warehouse. My store wasn't on the recent lists of stores sold or closing - but now I read the entire compnay has filed Chapter 11. THAT means the end is near. So, I'll probably be at the mercy of online ordering, with the usurious shipping charges and punitive Hazmat fees.

I'm still valiantly trying to keep from donning my Tinfoil Hat - but it is getting harder every day to believe this is just "high demand and low supply" that will even out soon. [dunno]

I have set certain minmum amounts for my primary weapons that i am comfortable with. 500 to 3000 rounds depending on the weapon. more than that or any other weapons seems unneccessary to me because when TSHTF either weapons and ammo will be available for the taking from the losers or i will be the loser and it will no longer matter. just a thought. i am now putting my money into food, first aid, and into better equiping and hardening my bunker. good luck all

I have been thinking again {most of the time that ends up to be a bad thing} and one of the effect the ammo shortage has had is reloaders are using up there supplies. What if the “Ammo shortage” was created so it would have this effect? Also would if the gov was going to make a move against our freedom would not the best time to do it be when ammo reserves have been use up?

That's why we DON'T burn it up and lose our supply! Take up another hobby for awhile, and see if the availability comes back. Keep what we have stashed, for the day when we really DO need it!

    Well,....
So much for my last ditch attempt at using black powder!

    Bullets?
    Plentiful!
'Cause they are so danged expensive!

Pyrodex pellets, not so easy to find today as they were just a couple months back...
(It appears that I wasn't the only one with this concept in any ammo shortage!)

    No. 209 primers?
    FORGET IT!
    No can find anywhere locally!
All the "reloaders" snatched them up, and most have them on back order now for up to what has been stated as at least the next 6 months, before any more are available!

Maybe I'll try going to "flintlocks" now?

I gave up on buying any "reloading" supplies long ago.....
No shot, no powders, and no primers then either!
    (any of the above!)

The local "Sportsman's" store, states that they get their shipments in the 1st thursday of every month...
    Well,....good luck!
I was there, the first in line when those doors opened.....

The powder, shot, primers and such was "reserved" for others!
No one ever told me there was a special "list" or a "reserve" of any kind....
I began to get the suspicion long long ago, that the store employees were either the "others" or, they have "friends" that wanted the supplies, and they were never placed on the shelves!
    So, what can you do?
This has been an ongoing standoff with me and them, for nearly 2 years now!
Only other store that carried black powder and supplies closed their doors a few years ago....
I'll Bet they wish they hadn't now!

Been like that all over, weird.even places that say "enter qty, gotocheckout, you goto checkoutand it is atleastan 18 day wait, but theywon'tguarantee, hateto tieup $300 and find something popup for ready delivery. That's alright, I should be buying more food anyway..perhaps just go with .22lr..and be happy.

Re: Getting caught with my pants down(intheammunitiondepartm

    Sportsman's warehouse here:
I went there this morning to find they are nearly cleaned out.....
Not only ALL ammunitions, (only had some steel shot in 28, 20 and 12 gauge ), but all the standard calibers.
    1 box of .17 wmr.
They had 2 boxes of .22 shorts.
8 boxes of .22 short blanks, and 12 boxes of .22 short black powder blanks!
    A few boxes of 12 gauge blanks, (6-8) .
    Not much else.
I asked why there was NO powder, no shot, nada in the way of reloading...
I was told that the company is in chapter 11 bankruptcy...
(you couldn't tell from those prices though!)
I was able to buy 1 case, 1000 No. 209 CCI shotshell primers.
    ($35.00!)
I went there to see what they had in the way of .22 lr.
Not one cartridge, not in that store anyway.
Most handguns gone, maybe 8 all total in the store.
They have a large selection of OVER-PRICED rifle and shotguns though.
They have already closed 23 of their stores and may close more yet.
I tried to find some .50 and .54 caliber black powder supplies, and found that it was picked as clean as the rest of the reloading and cartridge shelves.
They had maybe 3-4 bins with new brass.
A few odd assorted accessories and no Pyrodex powder, nor Pellets, or Triple 7, anymore.
Most that I found, was everything else in hunting, fishing, and camping supplies and that was it.
I hope that I can find out if Walmart still has something left on their shelves....

Re: Getting caught with my pants down(intheammunitiondepartm

I fared a bit better at my local SW. I lucked up onto four 1-pound bottles of RL15 powder - good for my .308 rifles and milsurps. Found a box of 150 grain SP in .312 size, for my .303 Brit loads. Found a new decapper pin for my RCBS 8X57 sizer die - I had broken it and even Midway was out of stock on the new pin! Strangely, they are heavy on milsurp die sets! I got the 7.62X54 Russian. Had gotten the 8X57 Mauser, .303 Brit and .30 Carbine dies earlier. No brass that I could use. Mostly just Cowboy calibers and belted magnum rifle cases - along with a lot of Cowboy Action type powder - just not a big market here!
A fair bit of shotgun powder and primers - we apparently don't have a big shotshell reloader market either.
Finally broke down and got the Alpha Chrony I had been needing - tried it at the range this morning - worked great! Now I can see what my handloads are really doing.
My store is also running out of Mountain House meal packets - I picked up a few in flavors I didn't already have.

My SW is not on the currently posted closure and sell lists - but that could change....

Re: Getting caught with my pants down(intheammunitiondepartm

I went to 3 separate Walmarts here in the valley...not one box of any ammo!
Nada! They have been Cleaned out.
They usually had some .38 spl, and 12 gauge 7 1/2 boxes........Not now!
The sales person said they haven't had .22lr for a month here, and don't plan on getting any (soon).
Their long guns were picked clean as well!
All of their Pellet guns were gone, and they had 2 bb guns, low fps models and overpriced.
I decided I'd go with another approach: slingshots!
Nope, not one left, No ammo and very few tents, or even any camping supplies....
Now they did have a lot of those 14 oz propane cylinders....for Over $3.00 each.
I was getting them for $1.97 to $2.04....
Coleman fuel, (white gas) WOW! It's $9.00 a gallon now...!
This is starting to get me a tad bit MORE than concerned at this point.
Ruger, up in Prescott Az, has what I was told to be at the least a 6-8 month back log on their firearms delivery....
The Ruger10/22 rifle is in high demand all of a sudden, and they have made that a priority.

I looked around at local pawn shops and all beat-up really bad looking SKS' are now selling for $600. Most look like they'd blow up or fall apart if fired.
AK's here, "IF" they are clean and decent, are well over $750.
    Most run $900 and up.
    Colt 1911's,...try this: $2,200.00!
    That's for a well used 1940 model!
Now I know the business I should have been in!

So, with all of this having been said, and done...
What's your take on all of this?

I am trying to see that it's all about the current admin's possible policy changes, but, IF that is the case, why the rush on the rest of the arms, and shells?
There has to be someone out there with a stockpile of ammo of all calibers, and a LOT of it. I mean geeez....where did it all suddenly go?
I mean really now, have you looked for .22 or .177 caliber pellets?
How about BB's? I found nothing but those stupid air soft guns and plastic balls! Sales seemed to have gone downhill on paintball guns and supplies too!
Lots' of golf stuff, and basketballs, footballs, and all the sports stuff!
I found a large double pack of sterno fuel at the Walgreens drug store...no where else.
Maybe I have to go over to that Cabela's super store in Glendale, but they already had higher prices than anyone else in town when they opened a few years ago......
Not sure what to do, or where to go now for any ammo or supplies....the southwest seems to be the 'low man on the totem pole', for delivery today!

Went to my local Walmart on Monday, just happend to be right place at right time. They were re-stocking the shelves, got lucky and got a mega 100rd pack of .380 and a 550 box of .22LR, wonder what the shelves look like today... Oh and they had no .45APC come in.
