<!-- TRANSIT - TEXTBAR --><!--CHUCK SHEPHERD'S NEWS OF THE WEIRD by Chuck Shepherd--><!--START_TITLE-->WEEK OF APRIL 19, 2009

<!--END_TITLE-->LEAD STORY
<!--END_TITLE--><!--BEGIN_TEXT-->The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration recently postponed its crucial program to rejuvenate quarter-century-old Trident missile warheads because no one can remember how to make a key component of the weapons (codenamed "Fogbank"), according to a March 2 report of the Government Accountability Office. The GAO found that, despite concern over the bombs' safety and reliability, NNSA could not replicate the manufacturing process because all knowledgeable personnel have left the agency and no written records were kept. Said one commentator, "This is like James Bond destroying his instructions as soon as he's read them." [Sunday Herald (Glasgow), 3-7-09]
<!--BEGIN_TEXT-->The GAO report came two months after the German Interior Ministry reported to Parliament that over a 10-year period, it had lost 332 secret files that were in fact so secret that no one in the Ministry could recall what was in them. [The Local (Berlin), 12-13-08]

This is no surprise remember the Daisy cutter incident where they had to recall someone for the Vietnam era to come back and explain how it was done .
I don't know what has happened to this country over the 6 decades I have been alive but it hasn't been for the better.

Minuteman says some very prolific things in another thread and I have to agree with him it won't be long before we find ourselves under the thumb of our own gov. because nobody remembers what this country was suppose to be like .

who knows? typical government bureaucratic snafu! right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing. everything they need to know is on file somewhere. classified super secret. 25 plus years ago paper hard copy only, filed by some underpaid, under educated civil servant (maybe incorrectly) who has since retired. never to be found until the freedom of information act allows someone to delve into the records 75 years from now. or, maybe to re-emerge into the light of day in future data bases when they finally get around to computerizing those hard copy records. who knows?

Copy?
I'd be willing to bet they have the original blueprints!
Reminds of the story where the FBI lost all those weapons and computers!
"But it was here, a year or so ago!"
