I will be taking the next two weeks off from writing and posting, for the holidays (in addition to Christmas and New Year’s, my wife’s birthday is the beginning of January). I may post little stuff, but the regular articles and videos will return on 6JAN2025. I appreciate your patience and understanding as we celebrate with family, friends, and neighbors. Additionally, I’m using the time off to plan out future work here on Patreon and the blog, to bring more useful information to you. Bear with me, it’s going to get even better. Glad Jul, Merry Christmas, Joyous Saturnalia,Happy Hanukah, Blessed Solstice, Festive Kwanzaa, and/or whatever your mid-winter holy day of preference is, in the meantime. —————————————————- Just being able to step forward and snap a stiff jab in someone’s face places him/her ahead of 99% of the public when it comes to fighting skills. Most people, including BJJ guys, will freeze or even outright quit when popped in the face with a good jab. Being comfortable taking a punch from someone who knows how to box is a skill in and of itself that few have. Renzo Gracie once said that a good BJJ guy loses a belt rank every time he is punched in the face, and history certainly vindicated that view. I think for BJJ, as long as someone is comfortable on their back shrimping out and bridging, allowing them to do a basic sweep or escape from mount/side mount, then they are fine to be on the ground. That roughly equates to six months or so of BJJ, so I am right with you on that, JM. Of course, a 90 lb grandmother with a Glock nullifies all of the boxing and bjj skills in the world. This is why Bruce Lee once responded to a question asking which technique he would use on a night time intruder by answering his 45 pistol. The original Gracie clan – Helio and Royce – who came to America were also very outspoken pro gun people for that same reason. Helio used to “joke” about hiding a pistol in his gi! Basic boxing should be the foundation of physical self-protection, even before grappling is learned. You’re absolutely right, a solid punch in the nose will stop almost anyone, except a really experienced pugilist, for at least a fraction of a second, which may be adequate to give you time to break contact. For less experienced people, it is often a fight ender, right out of the gate. While “God created made man, but Sam Colt made ‘em equal,” is true, to a point, the reality in modern American social intercourse, battery doesn’t—typically—happen at 20 yards, in broad daylight, at high noon. It happens at conversational distance, and action beats reaction, every time, so knowing how to (a) protect the gun in a physical assault, and (b) fight to get the gun out and into action, while under physical assault, are at least as important as being able to shoot the wings off a gnat at 21 feet. ——————————————————- good discussion. i can confirm that the federal drilling permit bans does not have an impact on most of the oil and gas industry, as the larger/innovators/growers of the industry are involved in the Permian, and already have enough permits to more than cover drilling. the biggest impact as you mentioned is WTI prices. We are producing a lot of oil and gas right now, and the price likely wont go up unless OPEC tries to mess with pricing again. Most larger oil and gas operators/E&Ps are also going to run out of drillable inventory within the next 10 years if not sooner with higher pricing. Only a select few have enough inventory at current prices… the others will suffer, look overseas, or have to wait for prices to dramatically go up (and not just inflation impact) to drill lesser quality inventory. Thanks for interjecting, buddy! This is what I was gonna discuss when you, when I called. You never did call me back, as far as I know, but since my phone is generally turned off now, unless I’m actively using it for something, I may just not have gotten the notification? ———————————————————– “The only reason wool is less popular than fleeces and piles of synthetic plastic is availability and expense” I’m not exactly sure that’s true.
