Everyonce in awhile I like to throw some lighter reading into the mix.

Started "Cell" by Stephen King couple days ago.

It's a classic Survival with MZBs type scenario. Some decent points being made on what to do in each new bad situation they find themselves in.

    I'd be dead!

He also has some aspect of survival in "The Stand" which is one of my favorite books.
I will have to pick it up.

Yeah. Lot's of talk about stay or go in the city. Zombies are everywhere.

    I'm enjoying it.

I first read the Stand when I was about 10. I liked it alot and it probably added to my Survivalist mentality as now. I did not like the ending. Still don't. Seemed anticlimactic

Was worth the 3 nights on the nightstand

Had a crappy ending at first... Then I thought about it and got it. It worked or it didn't... Doesn't really matter in the context

You didn't mention that it was just out and still in hardcover $26! I am going to have to look around, I am too cheap to buy hardbacks unless they are really, really good books. So was it worth it?

I look at it this way EL.... I go to about 1 or 2 movies every two years... I rent maybe 3 movies a year on top of that. I just don't have the time to sit and watch something.

But, tonight, 12:20 AM my time, I will get off here in another 15 minutes and go read for an hour or 2...

To me it's worth it and I can't stand small paperbacks.

Was Cell worth $26? maybe. If it's worth USPS mail to you and back, you can check it out :D

Sounds like my life, but I don't get the time to read for an hour or two that often. More like 15 minutes here and there.

I will do a little shopping, I bet I can find it a little cheaper. Thanks for the offer though.

I used to shop there a bunch, but we don't have one here. I started to go by Barnes & Noble but it was on the other side of town.

It was a good read, and true to King's style lots of twist and turns, and things you don't expect. [winkthumb]

If it makes you feel better. It was not NEW when I read it. Just something I grabbed off Mom's bookshelf

LOL! I read it when I was 17 and again at 21. Saw the TV movie twice. It did shape who I am and what I believe in today.

I've been a King fan for years but I think he changed after the accident or at least his writing style. IMHO.

  19. Old thread I know, but...

Yeah, that's the conclusion I came to when I read it, though I started getting irritated as soon as the zombies began levitating. It felt to me like it had a 5-star story and then a lot of up and downs throughout until reaching the 2-star ending.

Anton was inspired by Cell in his writing of Flaws and Features, and I like the way he put it: Cell could have been great, if only it had been good.
