This is in Cali. No can go that route, gotta employ a few animal control officers to trap and re-locate, ya know --taser1

Yeah, well, here we can't go that route, either. Yet somehow "Dead Dog Creek" got its name.

(Sooner or later, Americans need to re-grow, ummm, testicles.)

Well so long as outside of town can definatly go that route here in MO. If an animal is harming property, livestock/pets or a person its legal to kill ANY animals here in MO reguardless of status or season. Coyotes also have a fairly long open season and are considered furbearers, the only problem you MIGHT have would be with dischargeing a gun in town and I figure if they were dragging off a kid the judge would be more likely to toss a prosecutor that brought that charge in jail than the shooter.

This is why our neighbors look the other way when they hear gunshots coming from my backyard. They know what varmints can do if they get out of control.

a side story from me One night when I was sitting on my roof waiting for the raccoons to come into our yard I hear a "BOOOM" come from down the street. It turns out that a group of teen raccoons got into someones house, so they pulled their 12g and blew them to smithereens. and wouldnt you know it, nary a cop to be found.
I guess gunshots are a usual thing in this neighborhood (sleepy suburb).
Also another time I shot a raccoon from the roof someone started shooting at me! I heard Crack Crack Crack. Followed by Thwump thwump thump all around my on the underside of the roof.
Any who thats my side story

Yep, it's not illegal to use an AIRgun here inside city limits. 'Cause, you know, they have absolutely no danger factor at all . (Don't get me started - damned near lost middle son to a BB ricochet when he was little. Luckily the BB hit the skullplate right behind the ear and stayed; half inch higher movement and he'd been in serious trouble if not dead.)

If a coyote is trying to carry off my child, watch me shoot the damned thing back to its maker --- man-made laws be damned!

Buy some CB Caps by CCI for your .22. In a longer barreled rifle they sound like a pellet gun.

I agree that laws be damned. Even if it wasn't my kid, that coyote would be dead. No time to wait for animal control to respond. Their response time doesn't strike me as instant, so it's up to me to decide if the coyote gets a meal and the answer to that is definitely not unless it's a politician it's chewing on.

Fish and Game can kiss my donkey.....if I lived in that area, I would be killing the little SOB's anyway. What jury would convict you for doing so?

Aside that....a little bait and anti-freeze isn't hard to conjure up.

    Surely you returned fire?

I wish, I was 15 and the thought of being shot at on my own property hadn't really kicked in yet. Also I couldnt really see them, and I am not in the habit of shooting at what I cant see. For me its 1S1K (1 shot, 1 Kill).
I learned a couple of lessons that day, number one: check your surroundings for others and possible threats.#2 Never silhouette yourself. #3 when fired upon, shoot first, claim self defense later. #4, There is a thrill of being shot at and living that no drug, sport or anything else can substitute for.

meh, being a suburb hunter surely does limit what I can and cannot do. Nextime however they will meet my poodle shooter.
