OMG, pleeeeeeze somebody fix the electric. I'm HOT, I'm tired, I'm as whiney as my kids are. I'm havin' myself a real pity party today. Don't you just feel sorry for me and all my misery? ROFLOL!

Nah... I guess we're still doing ok here. Although I really CAN'T remember now how many days it has been. Laundry and showers are a real pain in the butt. Being hot while you sleep wears you down a little more each day. I can't vacuum, or use the dishwasher, or my hot water tank. My new Generac is due to be delivered today..... by an 18 WHEELER..... had to get hold of them and let them know...uuhhh.. not going to happen on my road. So now my daughter is meeting them at the interstate exit and escorting them to our other house which sits along a main road that can handle big trucks. My hubby is getting good at loading really heavy objects by himself these days. At least this is not as heavy as the wood cook stove he had to bring in by himself. He won't let me help . Why are men like that???

On to more subjects... we are still looking for someone with a dozer to put in a pond behind the house... I can't wait for that to happen! I can just see all the kids back there swimming and fishing in the pond n a couple of years. It would be nice to have our own supply of fish. We stopped buying ocean fish from the grocery store after they found cesium from Fukushima in all the fish they were testing. It's so true that if you want clean food these days you'd better grow it yourself. Thinking about laying in enough feed corn now to get my animals through the winter. They said on the news that this years corn crop is a total loss. I use corn to make heat in my livestock in the cold weather. Some of the other forums I go to are recommending that if you like corn products you should get enough now to last until the next crop comes in. Personally I think it's failing because its genetically modified so much. I don't know why a man would ever think he could make food better than GOD!!!!! But there you have it...

On another subject.. Any of you WV folks got any beef cattle or a nice little Jersey milk cow for sale? We're in the market for a brood cow for beef, maybe a steer or two and I'm thinking about a small Jersey cow for milk so I can make butter again. I miss sitting beside a big old cow talking to her while the milk hits the bucket. I like making butter and cheese with the kids. I'm good at milking and making stuff, but none of us were raised with cows and I need help picking out a good one. I don't know how to judge the qualities of the animals yet.

Well, I think this is the longest post I've made yet. Better stop before I get a reputation as a windbag, lol!

Well, seems like your preps have worked - well, except for the wood stove, and now you know what great-grandma went thru. Sorta.

Corn is down due to drought and massive FedGov subsidies to ethanol producers. Still, must still be cheap enough to burn - eh?

Hope you get back to 'normal' - but this is a good opportunity to discover what you would really need in a National grid-down situation.

Best of luck, with my luck the genset would get connected about the time the grid is restored... Hope you get your AC up and running soon.

I would journal your lessons learned for this outage. Maybe out of this you can have some good take-aways for how you worked around issues. And share with our Monkey family!!

Witch Doctor.... It poured for just a few minutes the other day and I managed to get over 400 gallons just from that! I was surprised!

Yard Dart... I've been pretty well prepped for several years now. What I'm seeing now, is that as my age advances, I need more and more "conveniences" to get through things comfortably. For instance, the heat did not used to bother me at all. Lived in Chas. S.C. for a few years and its roasting there... no probs, but that was over 20 years ago. Now, at this age and with some health issues, 90+ temps pretty much wipe me out. The heat is my main issue right now. I've discovered that when the heat puts you down, NOTHING much can be done as far as daily work. Regular things like laundry, dishes, mowing the yard, gardening etc... become time consuming because of getting sick in this heat. Today it was a little cooler so I went out and mowed on the riding mower while my oldest boy used the push mower/weedeater. We mow a couple of acres twice a week. It was really high so it took longer.

After that we picked blackberries for cobbler tonight. I've noticed that I'm not wanting to cook very much in this heat either, and thats making my family grouchy because I've got them spoiled with cooking from scratch 3 times a day. I think they're mad at me:(. It's hard to justify heating up the house with an oven just because they want biscuits or cornbread everyday. They are wanting lasagna and home baked bread and I'm thinking more like a ham sandwich and tater chips, lol.

On a happy note.... my Generac generator finally got here today. Just got to get it hooked up to the gas line and get my son in laws dad to do the panel for us (electrician) and next time the powers out things should go a lot better for me. I believe if I can keep my end of things up better, the whole house will run smoother. Everybody is happier when they can cool off, eat what they are used to eating, and get their rest in a cool bed. Even the kids are waking up tired from sleeping in a hot bedroom.

Well, thats my update for the day, hope I didn't bore you, Kathy

It's set up for nat. gas and we are getting fittings to be able to switch it to propane just in case anything happens with the gas.
