    Excellent and timely post considering it is Black History month. Much better than the phony balony Jango in Chains movie or whatever.

    I knew a little about her as an entertainer, and about her adopted children, I didn't know about her service with the Red Cross and Resistance. Thanks for the link Chelloveck!

    You're welcome. She seems like a talented, courageous, strong willed woman of her time and ahead of her time. Unfortnately too often such people fall into undeserved obscurity. Josephine makes contemporary "entertainer" celebrities seem rather insipid and pale by comparison.
