Very true. "Survival glasses" are just a pair of pinhole glasses made from a split of wood drilled with a knife point or a nail, then tied on with a string. They cut off all peripheral vision, but do their job very well when close vision is important.
It works! I didn't feel stupid but I did l look stupid when a co-worker asked what I was doing. Thanks G! I always wondered what I would do post-SHTF and if I lost my glasses.
cardboard, string = replacement glasses or even sunglasses. Works good, not so much a fashion statement. ETA - I did this on a lark, another site was having a winter contest. I did find the cardboard kept my face much warmer than the scarf. Don't know about a cardboard 'hat' -- I'll have to try that this coming winter...
It's looking through ones fingers to create a focal point before light reaches the retina. See above.
You can also gently press on the sides of yer Eye Ball to change the shape which changes the focal plane! DO NOT do this often, it will cause permanent damage!!!!
I have been using the hand diopter trick for years. Most often to identify the shampoo from the conditioner. Or toothpaste from disaster. The diopter effect is absolutely amazing when using it with open rifle sights. Requires nothing more than a piece of electrical tape with a hole in it and a pair of glasses to stick it to. What amazes me is that it seems to enable you to do the impossible...focus on the rear sight, front sight, and target all at the same time. I still have to tilt my head back to see the sights when bullseye shooting a pistol with my bifocals. On rifles a piece of tape on the shooting glasses does the trick. I worked with a guy who wouldn't get new glasses..... until what he thought was tooth paste turned out to be... Preparation H!!!
