Here in eastern oregon and south east washington there have been large numbers of counterfeit hundred dollar bill circulating around lately. they pass the pen and colored thread test, but I hear the image in the watermark is frowning and the "feel" is a little off. several local retailers are refusing ANY hundreds. is this happening anywhere else?
I haven't heard of any more than usual in our area but it may just be a case of inattentive cashiers coupled with the fact that most $100s in our area are crisp bills which makes it difficult to pick them out without scrutiny. Lots and lots of years ago I managed the money room for a major department store and after handling maybe $100K in bills every night, you could pick out the bad bills just from the feel. Once I even found a $20 with wo different serial #s on the face.
Two major banks in pendleton, oregon have taken in about 3000.00 of these bills in the past 20 days. I have not heard whats going on in the smaller banks. I bet they are all over the indian casino's in the area, that would seem like a good place to dump bogus cash.
Saw reports last night that they are all over TN now too. I thought the change to the Funny Money was supposed to make it harder. I can't pass a $50 without the little Pen coming out to test it. I'm going back to Gold and Silver
