If you are wanting some long range love and must have a semi auto I would run something in .308. Springfield M1A1 (M-14) or HK-91/PSG-1 type. Otherwise I would go with a bolt action rifle.
Do you need a $1400.00 to shoot a looter? Could some of that money be spent on other preps? Have you considered the total cost of this rifle? You will need mag, sling, case, parts, a cleaning kit, optics, ammo and a set of web gear. Any time you add a long gun you should add another set of everything that goes with it. I have a set of web gear for each one of my long gun. I have a few Saigas and for shooting looters they would work very well. You can get Saigas in .410, 20ga, 12ga, .308, 7.62x39 and .223 and one will cost $900.00 less. If you buy a 7.62x39 and invest in some 154gr SP in I do not think you will have any problems taking care of the looters. I think you might be able to do a little better than that price, sellers on Gunbroker.com are selling the same configuration from a few different manufacturers for $100-$150 less. For $1400 on an AR-15 you might as well pony up a few more bucks and get a DPMS or Armalite AR-10. Don't let yourself get screwed like that.
That is a bit high. There is a place here locally that sales to LEO but is open to the public that has Bushmasters for $899.

I have been highly amused by this clemsonguy81 ever since he joined this board a few months ago. He has done nothing but ask us open ended questions about firearms and basically nothing else. I have finally googled his screen name and I have found that he has done the same thing at other sites regarding weapons and/or survival. I also found that he is heavily into console gaming, which leads me to belive that with his general maturity level that he is a juvenile. Now he has done nothing against our COC, that would result in him being kicked off the Monkey and I hope he dosen't because like I stated above, I find him very amusing and like a good laugh all the time. Clemson, here is a word of advice from a 43yr old combat vet. Start reading all the archives here , for there is a goldmine of info here that would have answered 99% of all your questions so far, and survival is not just weapons oriented. There is so much here to learn, that could very well save your or your loved ones lives, for knowledge itself is free for the taking. It's what you learn and gain from that knowledge that will always be priceless.

I've always liked that rifle. Light, accurate I trained with it and have thought about getting one. What would you pick? An SKS with 3k ammo or the AR-15 pictured above with no ammo and why? Would it be a lopsided trade?
