This continues on from my last build in the previous year.

    I started with this:

Now after many months of work, by myself for 98% of it, I have it looking like...

    THIS! :)

My most recent addition was getting the kitchen area added / walled in with an extra window for light:

That's all for now folks. Summer summary will be buzzed on next time. :)

So.... half cut logs, make it a "Log Cabin"?

    Would you believe....a semi-log cabin?

It's a pole frame cabin....a nicely constructed structure as far as I can see.

Is that like the semi-log scale on a slide rule?
Yeah I really like the pole frame, I need to make a pole barn for storing hay in the off seasons, wish I had trees that I could do that with...

@Tyler Danann nice cabin. How close are you to water, will you have to haul it in? Also, did you make the windows on the smaller side for security purposes?

Thanks for the responses folks. I've been meaning to get his onto here for a while, but this forum uses more complex embedding protocols.

Ok, about half a mile from a creek, only 300 yards from a well :)

Yes to the windows question. :)

I talk about this on my update video here:

The hard part in building it was:

Getting the floor built (a Month).

Getting the walls and windows built / installed (another month or so).

Installing a woodstove (several weeks to get all the parts).

The summertime was when all this got done.

The kitchen expansion was from a trailer / storage site, to a more suitable cooking area with tables. This wasn't too difficult, it was more a case of replicating the main living quarters on a smaller scale, minus a floor.

I should also mention I had to install a set of solar panels onto the roof too, this was a bespoke build as they were originally meant for a marine-application.

I will talk about this first:

The floor was the most challenging as I had to use the existing foundation posts to tie in the primary and secondary floor joists:

Once this was done some plywood sheets that cost about $30 per 4x8 were fitted. The first three went in nicely, the next three were all custom fitted. It took me weeks to do this as I was without a generator at that time. I managed to use R19 insulation and tar-paper to keep the floor warmer too.

Some French Drains to keep the water flowing nicely are also built.

This is how a neighbor 'built' her cabin, however she bought it outright and a moving machine plunked it down in situ! I think it was about $8,000 BUT doesn't have the space I have with a kitchen annex etc.

I wouldn't call it a log cabin as such. It's more of a pole cabin with half-logs, 2x4s, 2x6s and osb etc. :)

The log-cabin concept is great IF you have $$$$ for the logs or have about 30 - 40 trees on your land that are the right look and age etc.

The pole-cabin uses about a third of the trees from what you'd need for a log-cabin.

Thanks for sharing the youtube channel. Once I understood that you were saying bug in not booging it made sense. :) Nice informative history on windows. I bookmarked your channel so I can watch the other ones.

The woodstove was a nightmare to install in some ways, from off-loading it from the truck, to getting all the right parts to fit for it.

The woodstore is getting a bit low.

    Time to top it up!

I also do some insulation work via a half log I split manually using splitting wedges:
