    fiirearms droogs:

I seem to have a heightened sense of immediacey( would that be redudant?) about all this stuff so I'm thinking a mil type rifle might come in handy as a next purchase( gonna liquidate sonme unused toys cheap guitars/amps) any way, somewhere on the board is a believable list of a 12 step plan to gun confiscation.
One of which, is the outlawing of military calibers. After watchin "America freedom to faschism" Iam more apt to believe this "govt power grab" stuff...Anyway,

So I can easily believe the public could be sold on a mililtary caliber ban. I'm was leaning toward .308 for availability.but

    Now I'm thinking 30-06 garand:

Here's the discussion point: After all They could never sell the public on banning .22lr, 30-30, 12ga, 30-06 ( what do you guys think??? think, safe bet??) Or could they??
What would you guys buy? Now I've just got sporting arms( .22lr bolt, 30-30, 12ga, .38 one of the reason I have these calibers,)

If you're really worried about it buy a reloading press and powder. Then with dies you can make any caliber you want.

.308 or .223 would be good to purchase. I have heard of some people having 10K worth or more of each caliber. Don't forget your handgun ammo either.

    Buy soon...buy often.

30-06 is a bit more expensive in bulk and other odd calibers will not be defense rounds

I figured that a US military caliber like 223 or 308 would be a good choice as an "after tshtf" weapon as even if the economy is gone and nobody is making ammo for civilians anymore, you'll be able to get ahold of the common military calibers on the black market.

Tango, I'm afraid I had something to do with this "heightened sense of immediacey"...... sorry

S'okayman...not your fault, I'm not sure what to believe sometimes...with all the patriot act stuff I never woulda' believed we're actually seeing , I can be convinced of almost anything anymore, my wife keeps me grounded. She thinks this is all crap, made me a tinfoil hat last week[siren]...(BTW proper english: "heightened sense of urgency" but you got the idea...)
Gotta appologize for the typos in the title and elsewhere, my toshiba has a softkey( f10 or f11) kybrd overlay that I 've never figured out, and I'll be typing along and the cursor will jump up somewhere, I don't always catch it..frustrating.

You could get an M1 Garand in 30-06, and also get a replacement barrel in .308. Use what you want till you run out of ammo and then switch.....

    Just a thought.

Aim ran out of SA 308 this weekend, all of the Milsurp 308 is gone now, Glad I stashed.
Garand is the logical choice now as 30-06 is out there and cheap!

Garand served our nation well. There are other popular choices out there, but you've got a good one there. Plus its primary cartridge is preferred by many deer hunters so reloading components and ammo should be available for some time to come. Though you can get Korean manufactured military surplus ammo pretty cheaply right now in this cartridge.

Some of the folks more knowledgeable in reloading than I am (Im a newbie to it) should correct me if Im wrong but I believe the 7.62 mm is a .30 cal bullet and as such is VERY available for reloading since the vast majority of the most popular hunting caliburs for large game tend to be .30 cal, 30-30 30-06 .300 7.62x30 7.62x54 and some others Im sure are sliping my mind at the moment. So with a cheap loading set up and if wanted even casting dies to cast your own bullets, you should be able to feed something in the 7.62 cal indefinatly. As far as their possesion being illegal, if its to that point its not much worth worrying about the laws since they will find a law for you to break any way.
