Hopefully this will be the harbinger of things to come wherein the non religious will not be discriminated against for not belonging to a god fearin' bible believing kirk.

Madison City Council adds 'nonreligion' as protected class

Of course the sock puppets of Faux News on the Fox & Friends Show have a different point of view...it's all the fault of hostile, angry atheists apparently.

I agree that they should not be discriminated against any more than religious folks when it comes to the protections involving work, marriage, sexual habits, taxes (heck they can pay some of mine), etc... I have no issues with this heck I wasn't aware they were discriminated against... I would have some issues if antidiscrimination laws would have a negative effect on my rights... just saying...

    YMMV

HMMM... Upon further cogitation... I wonder if this means that they can now be sued for stopping prayer in schools...The mind Boggles....

I initially thought that the idea of protecting the non-religious was more than a little silly, until I saw that my own state apparently requires a belief in a god in order to hold office. I find that more than a little silly as well. Perhaps two silly things cancel one another out.

ditch witch I do stupid crap, so you don't have to

Arkansas's law about atheists not being allowed to be witnesses in court proceedings is amusing. So next time I'm in Arkansas, the perpetrators of murders and mayhems are safe to do what they do in my presence, because I can't be called as a witness.

There are several states that deny atheists the right to hold public office. Mississippi is one, I believe PA and NC are as well but not for sure.

I don't give a *censored* what someone's beliefs are, provided they don't involve violence against anyone not bothering them. Denying anyone stuff because of that is just stupid. I also believe that the requirements about a belief in God to hold office is wrong, it goes against the seperation of Church and State. I don't mind atheists, I don't mind Christians, I mind people demanding their 'rights/beliefs' superseding anyone else's. But from studying history, it seems any 'persecuted' group, once the persecution stops, the 'freedom' goes to their heads and they start trying to persecute anyone not like them.
