Rifle Basix Savage 93r17 trigger Or shim the factory?

I did the trigger shim and changed the spring out to a bic pen spring. It's very light and crisp.

We installed a Rifle Basix on our (my son's) 917v and it is the best damn aftermarket install I've ever chosen for any of the rimfires. The thing is adjustable butter and smooth as silk. I highly recommend them - worth every penny imho.

I have done the 'Pentel Spring Trick' and careful honing/burnishing on two newer Marlin rifles (early 2000's Model 25MN and 17V), an older Marlin Model 80DL and the Ruger 10-22 Walmart Special Rifle. Made a huge improvement in each.
I actually hadn't first intended on doing the Ruger, but the trigger group literally fell out when the pins slid out during it's first good cleaning. I figured,"why not!"...... On the Ruger it also involved drilling the spring hole a tad larger in the trigger guard to fit the spring I used. Been in there some ten years or more now, still works great!

 

Thanks ... yeah, it was sort of done on the fly. I meant for it to turn-out one way and it decided it wanted to turn out another way which ended-up fairly unique and it works in the woods when my Son is out there popping tree rats for stew and yotes that come too close to the chicken houses.

I wish I could figure out how to do a trigger job (hone and polish) on a couple of these 1022s - worst factory triggers known to man.

 

The 10-22 is very easy. Just disassemble, and use ultra-fine emory paper - 2000 grit, available at any good auto supply store, and basicaly polish the mating surfaces of rigger and sear. Don't remove any metal or change angles, just burnish it. The trigger spring can be replaced by a mechanical pencil or pen spring to lighten the pull, but I had to drill the spring hole in the trigger guard out a bit larger, as the spring was larger diameter than the Ruger spring. The hole is offset to one side, so getting drill bit in wasn't a problem. Go slow & easy, the TG material is soft.
Made a huge improvement!!
