Not everybody lives near the ocean, and since that's also where most of the population centers are located they might not be good places for many of us to go to... unless we live in AK, of course...

I did read that 2 tbsp of sea water diluted at least 3:1 (helps with absorption) provides all the salt we need each day.

There's roughly 1.5 lbs of salt in a cubic foot of sea water (62.5 lbs per cubic foot, roughly). I don't have all the conversion factors to hand, or I'd run the ration numbers for the fun of it, but I don't. Nor do I have the smallest idea of how much salt we might need, but I'd guess we get way more than the minimum with a "normal" diet. EXCEPTION: The water diet fad of a couple years ago made a LOT of people lose electrolytes to the harm of their health and lead to some ER visits.

I got that from a thread on Survivalist Boards, not sure how accurate the information is: Salt: What are natural sources?? - Survivalist Forum

"Actually agasint common misconception you can DRINK seawater and it wont kill you.

Salt water on avg carries about 35g of salt a Litre, daily intake is surposed to be around 2.2g most americans get 5g daily.

2 Tablespoons of seawater is your recomended daily salt intake.
you want to mix this with at least 1/3rd with fresh water before intake(or your body cant absorb it properly because concentration is to high)

I know you mentioned seawater by evaporation. But the idea you cant drink any seawater isnt quite correct so it was worth mentioning.
If your going to use salt in cooking or preserving foods that your going to add alot of water to, simply boiling the salt water to sterilize it could save you fresh water and salt."

Sounds like you can also extract salt from certain vegetation

UncleMorgan I like peeling bananas and (occasionally) people.

Fourwing saltbush is a possible source of salt in the Western US.
It can be cooked several ways. The leaves exude salt, and have a distinct salty flavor.

There is also an Australian plant that is similar.
