Some interesting information coming out about the small drones and ways to stop them. While a shotgun might not be the ultimate drone killer, the information may well be of interest. Turns out that there are basically a few factors that really determine their effect on drones. The first one is the size and composition of the shot. While 00 buck is the most effective in killing it, it has the least pellets and of course thus the smallest effective cloud of shot to hit the drone. A skeet load has the best chance of having an effective cloud of shot but is not likely to kill the drone. Tests seem to indicate it is about the same as turkeys, 6 or so. Then the distance it is effective seems to be the same as hunting. It is all in the choke and barrel. Some companies are at the point of getting patents on combinations that both enhance the range and pattern. Some people who make prep videos got into real world tests with available ammo. While they make a lot of mistakes and there is a lot of survival type ads, the real points come out. In the real world it is at this point best to go duck hunting. You can practice on fast moving targets at realistic ranges that are resistant, due to feathers, to damage and using both good waterfowl shotguns and realistic loads. The main point I found in the video, is that if you don't optimize your tools and practice, there is going top be a lot of failures. If you do ever have to use them for their intended purposes, you are going to have a few seconds to both have it right and being able to use it. In the real world there is no game over, do you wish to play again. My take is that at the present time in the USA, having a drone, a good shotgun and a few boxes of good goose loads would be the best arrangement. Very good discussion of goose hunting combos and it is totally relevant to anti drone. Anything smaller than #4 lead birdshot is probably useless, unless it's fiber optic controlled. It appears drones use wireless controls until jamming comes into play. They're likely easier to kill with fiber optic cable coming out the back. On account of I haven't seen any drones chasing anyone with a shotgun in Ukraine.
