Well, if finally happened. Bad enough weather that it knocked out our power last night. Power went off about 10:30 due to high winds. Alarm went off this morning at 6:00 (damn I hate that alarm, works even without power due to 9v battery). Still no power. So at 6:15am I powered up the noisy generator and will have it going long enough to keep the fridge & freezer in good shape. Take care, hope no one else was hit. News on the radio (hand crank ) said a possible F5 hit Jackson, TN.
Ryan, I thought about you when I heard that Memphis was hit, glad to hear that you and yours are all A-OK. I am also glad to hear that you are prepared with your generator and hand crank radio. Little reminders like losing power always seem to make me think just a little more about my preps and put me a little more in the survival mindset. We had a lot of hail here in E. TX. It appears as though that all of my vehicles were damaged at least a little, all except for my Gov. car. wouldn't that figure. We had so much hail so fast, that our yard looked like it snowed. I hope the power is back on quick, and my thoughts and prayers are with all that lost friends and loved ones, those were nasty storms.
Power came back on about 9:30, so that makes about 11 hours with no power. While I didn't "get hit", my pastor's house was side-swipped by a twister. Here's the damage list so far: 4 cars totaled all brick on one side of the garage gone door blown in windows broken whole house attic fan sucked out and missing chicken coup gone (no word on the chickens) storage shed gone 1 horse died Fortunately no one was injured during the storm, a little shaken up, but no injuries. Now that I do not need the generator, a friend of mine picked it up and is taking it to them to use, along with some extra gas. Oh, and my PC worked just fine running on the generator. In fact while I had the fridge & freezer hooked up I got online to check local news sites for a damage report. Even had one of those little compact florescent lights going on the generator (course the light and PC were hooked up to a UPS so that may have filtered some of the power).
Sorry to hear about all the twisters down south. Wish I could take the time to go out there and volunteer. My prayers to everyone affected.
We lost power from the wind. I don't get the tornadoes in the mountains. We got a heck of a lot of rain last night. I bet 5 inches. I heard 52 dead. Hope you are alright.
