    This looks great.
I have not tried it yet.

For those who don't know, it's already very easy to use bitmessage with Thunderbird, an open source email program with great features. Even if you're not using thunderbird as your main email program, or don't want to, you can still use it as the interface for Bitmessage. It takes care of spam perfectly.

How to use Bitmessage with Thunderbird? Here it is: Arceliar/bmwrapper · GitHub

There's also a solution which I haven't tried as it's only for Windows users, but that can be found here:

The other advantages of using Thunderbird or Ayra's gateway program, are that you can sort incoming messages automatically using filters, to go into whichever folders you want. Junk-spam is a thing of the past too (see below for Thunderbird settings).

So, after installing Bitmessage (see https://bitmessage.org) and BMwrapper for Thunderbird (see Arceliar/bmwrapper · GitHub), and Thunderbird (see www.mozilla.org/thunderbird, here is how to train and use the automatic junk filtering of Thunderbird:

    1. Open account settings.
    2. Click on "Junk Settings"
    3. Make sure "Enable adaptive junk mail controls for this account" is
    checked.
    4. If you have added the addresses that the spam is coming from (i.e.
the general chan address) then make sure the boxes in the "Do not
automatically mark mail as junk if the sender is in" list are unchecked.
    5. "Move junk messages to" should be checked.
    6. The filter has to be trained. Mark any spam messages that make it
into your inbox as junk by clicking on the dot under the flame icon.
    7. New spam should move into the junk folder automatically. Sometimes a
few don't. If that happens go back to step 6.

Note: You have to set the junk settings for each account separately and the local folders count also as one account.

No doubt in future PyBitmessage will also have further improvements to allow for folders and filtering, but this is likely to be quite some time, as priority seems to be upon developing the protocol as Bitmessage is still in beta, and still needs security peer review.

PyBitmesage is already easy to use for those wishing to try Bitmessage "out of the box", even without Thunderbird via BMwrapper. If you need to delete a range of messages from the inbox, just press and hold the shift key while clicking on the first and last of the range you want to select (and then delete). Or press the ctrl key while clicking on individual messages you want to select or de-select.

But for power users, I consider the Thunderbird solution mentioned above indispensable. It even works on those few Linux systems where pyBitmessage will not run for one reason or another, e.g. older versions of Ubuntu. In this case, you can run the Bitmessage daemon API command-line-interface after setting up the Bitmessage API and after launching Bitmessage from the command line (e.g. python ~/PyBitmessage/src/bitmessagemain.py) and the daemon (e.g. python2.7 ~/PyBitmessage/src/daemon.py) you can launch BMwrapper (e.g. python2.7 ~/PyBitmessage/src/main.py) and use Thunderbird as the interface.

[can form the basis of an intro help to an online article on installing and using Bitmessage if anyone can suggest additions/corrections? I'll then submit to news media for broadcast. What else would you like to see included in a public article to reach news readers?]
