Advancing ones education is key, not how you accomplish the task. Unions SUCK.
    .
Stupid bought and paid for Politicians SUCK MORE !!!

My apologies to any outstanding teacher who is really trying to do the best job possible within the corrupt shoddy system that requires them to unionize or not teach. You have to do whatever to keep your job and income. I get that, but if you are blind to how screwed up the system is, ...... then shame on you.

My wife has a few friends that went into education, not one likes the the politics of their union. I think one of them is now at a private school and no longer has to be part of that nonsense. We also lived in San Diego for 6 years and constantly heard the bickering by the school unions out there, all it did was prove to me how little they cared about education. The money some of those people made was incredible, then to demand more while performing terribly was sickening. They would publish lists because they are public employees, with high school teachers making 150k +.

I was part of pipefitters local 597 for 12 years before joining the company I'm with now. The apprenticeship training was great, after that its a joke- its a popularity contest to get a job in the hall. I certainly don't miss it. We called out legalized extortion- pay us weekly "dues" and you can work in or city.

Unions had their time before HR departments existed. They need to go away.

The real reason is that the educational programs have not been vetted by the state ... in order to have a program with accredited classes the state must have it's pound of flesh... however they seem to miss the fact thet these classes are not for credit....

The unions together with the public school system are fighting like crazy against a voting choice to allow charter schools in Georgia. The unions are saying that it is outside interests that will take away monies from public education. I do not know if that is true or not BUT anything would almost be a guarantee to provide better quality education for our kids. Our entire USA public educ. system is a bad joke. I know some really good teachers here (dedicated, love kids, etc) but they agree that they cannot change or buck the system as it is in place. Creative ideas are pooh-poohed. Teachers that advocate for better materials, texts, etc soon find themselves in trouble. I think many older teachers that knew education when it was better (not good, but better than now) have folded in their wings and try to keep a low profile until retirement. Just about every politician in the past 90 years who has said it will be good for the children should have been shot, not fired but painfully hurt as we now have 1-3 generations of youngsters who cannot think logically, cannot make change at sales or do basic arithmetic, construct a simple paragraph, diagram a sentence, and on and on. It is so very sad.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with the educational system...
    /me looks doe-eyed
Lot's of money to be made from unions. Everybody should be in a union.
/me wonders where money grows on trees. Must get some of those trees.
Every teacher today was a tiny, impressionable mind at one point in time.
/me wonders if an apple a day keeps the doctor away, how much fruit would it take to get the Gov't off his back...

(by the way, this forum does not support emote script. Oh well)
