COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police said a desk clerk shot a man who was attempting to rob an east side motel on Saturday night.

Officers said that shortly before 9:30 p.m., a man walked into the Super 8 Motel, located at 2055 Brice Rd., showed a gun and demanded money.

Police said the desk clerk on duty then shot the alleged robber, Antoine Stephens.

Stephens, 20, was transported to Grant Medical Center and was in serious condition on Sunday morning, NBC 4 reported.

Police said he would be charged with aggravated robbery.
3 shots fired, all 3 hit the bad guy, gun was a glock 23, 40cal with 165g Gold dots ... (more) (less)

I thought that the lady and her young daughter were way too close to the line of fire, and that the clerk was risking their life and using them as concealment. The clerk also shot the perp in the back, and I could see where he could have some serious problems with the justice system, a good defense attorney, and the subsequent civil lawsuit. In slow-mo, as soon as the perp observes the clerk's gun, he turns and runs away. It is a good thing he did not attempt to return fire as he probably would have hit the lady in front of the counter or her young baby girl. I also thought the pic at the end said "wanna-be Rambo come sue me." It's easy to be an arm chair quarterback after the fact, but I think that the smarter move would have been to put some distance between himself, the shooter, and the potential innocent victims. Like maybe walking to the end of the counter. Hindsight is 20-20 though.

I thought the people at the counter were way to close. He risked their lives, but he was lucky. I found it interesting you could hear the chambering of a round in the back ground.

Unfortunately, we are no longer allowed to open fire and rid the world of a scum bag that threatens our lives without fearing prison or getting sued.

I think most of what E.L. said was right on the money .

It would have been nice if we had been able to hear the audio of the whole thing instead of the moronic heavy metal music , I suppose I should be happy it wasn't rap though .

Looked like a bad shoot all the way around to me but since the slimeball was in the dark at the time the clerk fired we can't be sure he didn't turm back to fire when he was shot .

I am glad I don't own the Hotel as I smell lawsuits galore !

Although I do agree with everyones analysis to a degree, keep something in mind.

Sometimes the bad guy just "decides" to start shooting, and especially with the adrenaline pumping, how do you know he's running away and won't shoot back? Maybe he's dodging and will return fire. I say shoot, and keep shooting until the bad guy stops moving.

I'd like to know exactly where the bullets penetrated. 3 shots from a 40 before he dropped. Not the best ballistic performance in the world.

I know it was in the heat of the battle and happened really quick while the clerk was in a situation of extreme duress. He did appear to have some training from the way he held his Glock, and his movements. Ultimately no innocents were hurt, and he got very lucky.

He hit all three shots, not bad in a gunfight/stressful situation, so I agree he at least was well practiced.

It's just too bad the perp is still alive.
