Videos did way more for me than books because you get to see them actually doing the work. But the videos cost alot more also. I love 'em and still go back and watch them all the time. 8)

Well, unless I go ahead and varnish the handle I have it done, includeing my mark on one side of the blade and the month and year in (IX V) on the other side of the blade. Now I just need to get pics of it and get them posted.

Yeah, I think it came out awsome. Actualy may be looking for a camera after all. Got the girlfriend to let me use hers for this but was informed I needed to get one for myself. I have the pics on my PC now and will try to load them here.

Here are the pics of the knife I have been working on. This one shows the balance point of the knife.

Now that's a serious looking piece of steel. Keep this up and you'll need a whole new set of blademaker cards.

Well, thats the hope, I cant afford to keep driveing all over a couple of counties for what Ive been makeing and figure this is something else I enjoy so if I can make money at it then I figure I would love to be able to build it up.
As to the blade, it has a REAL nice edge to ot already and the handle will likely darken up more as the pics were taken just a few hours after the final sanding and when I was working on it and left it overnight it darkened up a good bit. The wood it is made from was a deep chocolate and if not varnished this will likely go back to that. I was thinking especialy since this is my first marked knife to go up for sale (the only others I have sold were low quality knives made from rail road spikes 15 years or so ago) and if I should be lucky enouph to be able to get into this on a larger scale and make a name for it this one could be a real neat deal to have that I will raffel it off here if there is enouph intrest to fill 20 slots.

    That's a big knife mm!
You still have any of those Rail Road spike knives laying around?

No I probably made 6 or so and sold a couple along with others from the guys I worked with and the rest have been lost or stolen since then, I thought I still had one but havent been able to find it for a couple years or more. They just had part of the spike hammered to a blade and drawn out to about 4" and then the handle was the top part of the spike left square and twisted a time or 2 and had the head of the spike as a skull crusher or whatever. They werent even filed excetp fot to sharpen them, no finish work to them at all they were just to practice on the forge. This one is being raffeled on the general discussion page here though.

Well, I may have to fudge the date on my second knife. Its almost done and I plan to mark it Oct even if it gets done now. Its setting in the vise now with the epoxy drying on the handle so all thats left is to mark it and finish the handle, polish it and sharpen it. Its more of a traditiopnal hunting knife lines.

Lol I figure I will try to post pics in the next day or 2, I have to borrow the camera from the girl friend to do so though and the knife is currently drying in the vice. Should be done tomorrow and then I figure I will try to get the pics and post them. This one dose have a lot nicer finish though and the same wood for handles.

Well, heres a teaser pic of the new knife beside the first one, there will be some more pics on the 'for sale' thread here in a few minutes. This one also shows what can be expected in the color development of the handle, I havent done anything more to the handle on my first one, its just returning to the color it was before sanding.
