Former navy destroyer sunk off B.C. coast to create artificial reef

    "
VANCOUVER - The sound of boat horns and cheering from hundreds of excited onlookers saturated the smoke-filled ocean air as demolition crews sank a former Canadian warship off the B.C. coast on Saturday.

After years of legal wrangling, the Artificial Reef Society of British Columbia successfully sank the former HMCS Annapolis in the waters of Halkett Bay Marine Provincial Park off Gambier Island northwest of Vancouver.

    Go ahead @hkuser....say somethin smart.

The rest of the Canadian Navy is only one Chipping Hammer thru the hull, away from following that "Rust Bucket" to meet Davy John's in his Locker.... I remember a few years back, when Canada decided to close the Inside Passage to All US Flagged Vessels, over a Fishing Dispute, and Senator "Scoop" Jackson (Dem Washington) threatened to send a SINGLE US Missile Frigate to escort our vessels thru Canadian Waters, and BLOW ANY CANADIAN NAVEL OR COAST GUARD VESSELS, that stuck their noses out of Harbor, CLEAN OUT OF THE WATER... This issue was settled within Days... They learned, something in that small incident.... You DO NOT Mess, with the US Navy, or "Scoop" Jackson. (The US Senator from Boeing)

The Canadians tried a different approach, during the next Fishing Dispute. The ringed an ALASKA STATE FERRY, in the Port of Prince Rupert, and wouldn't allow it to sail. The State of Alaska then stopped going to Prince Rupert, with their Ferries, and finally the RCMP ARRESTED. The protestors, for violation of International Maritime Laws, it was YEARS before Alaska even considered returning to Prince Rupert, and then only after Canada BEGGED, AND PLEADED, with Alaska, to return, and Promised there would NEVER be a repeat of those events.

American entitlement at it's best....you wonder why 20% of US kids/"workers" under 30 are on food stamps and expect .gov to provide for them. You indoctrinate them with this totally FALSE paradigm of "'mercan exceptionalism" and train them that the world owes and fear you.
I bet there's no shortage of welfare folks in Hyder. Certainly wasn't a decade ago when my mom lived outside Cassiar.
Citations and links needed for what you B/Posted. (bragged/posted).
We need you less than you need us.
    A lot less.
The vast fluorinated, liberal, obese and tv-tarded population of 'merica isn't very scary to me.
Present company could prolly put up a fight...but 50% of your current generation are sissies. Maybe more.
Your .gov is already taking care of all the veterans(death panels), tea partiers(IRS harassment), libertarians (black listed) and constitutionalists (black listed) ...won't be long b4 u have no stones whatsoever.

The site will be open on Monday once divers finish an underwater safety inspection.

This is the seventh ship sunk by the artificial reef society in B.C. waters.

Maybe not far from the truth...

Just what " You" are you blathering on about? I do not Teach such BS, IN MY WORLD.... I do not Indoctrinate ANYONE, about ANYTHING.... are you telling Me, you do not know the history of your own Country? These were BOTH Historical FACTS..... Sen "Scoop" Jackson made that Statement on the Floor of the US Senate... You go look it up, if you need to.....

"Your world" is an old man in the woods...not reflective of the reality of your country.
I am not aware of this particular incident...but I am aware of MANY other incidents where your gov has bullied mine into doing your bidding. I'm sick of it. Stay off my land and be mindful of OUR maritime laws. Bet your bacon it'll be a US oil rig or tanker that WRECKS my coast line some day soon. And your .gov will think it's "ok" if they pay a huge fine to pretend to clean it up...bullocks. I'm not for sale.
Bragging aboot how you think you can threaten my sovereignty is ignorant.
You don't own me, my country or my land. I'm not scared of you.

Each side has its opinions, and each side has its own rendition of historical events. As far as I see it, Mindgrinder was mostly right about the shape of many Americans and the fact they are hopeless. BTPost was right about the US Navy -don't want to wrangle with those horns.

But, as far as I see it, BOTH nations are suspect, and BOTH have acquiesced, to varying degrees to the edicts of government, and even though the Canadians have been mostly disarmed, they aren't as wimpy as the British (yet).

Grinder, your out of your Depth in this discussion.... There is a Treaty in place, between our two Nations, that Guarantees each nations Right of Free Passage, thru the others Coastal Waters, as long as they do NOT make a Landing in the other Nations Ports of Call. In the first cited Instance the Canadians broke that Treat by refusing Free Passage, and in the second Instance, the Canadians committed an Act of Piracy, by not allowing a US Flagged Vessel to Navigate Freely, in leaving the Port of Prince Rupert. So you Cannuks, in both instances, broke that In Place Treaty, between our two Nations. Seems like you better learn your own History, before you start Casting Dispersions, about....

You might be right aboot the treaty and I will agree to look into it for the sake of argument/education.
However, I'm not a big fan of Admiralty Law/Maritime Law to begin with.

Last time you actually picked a fight with us, you lost. (like most wars you fight)

Kinda shameful that we're outgunned by the French but whatever....
It's highly concentrated in rural and small communities with next to no property crime at all.

OK I'll give it a shot!

Where was the Canadian Submarine Service to do the deed, after all that should have been something they could have hit!

My reply would have been sooner but I was hunting Easter Eggs at CFB Esquimalt Center where the OLD Cn Submarine Service once hosted us and we had a fine Curling Contest on the ice. CFB Esquimalt - Esquimalt Military Family Resource Centre

Of course we had already hosted that crew in Hawaii and showed them how to watch Submarine Races and Girls in Bikinis in Oahu and then how to have a fine warm enjoyable sunny afternoon playing a Beer Ball Game and taught them the Rules. You know. Start at bat with a full beer. Advance to First Base but only after your beer is empty then on top second base, same rules.

We got along just fine in both countries.

Well not really no eggs, but I was making the point that I never had a problem getting along with others in CN that served their country. What I see today, all over the world, is a population that does not know it's history.
