Finally, More Women Are Getting Concealed Carry Permits

    http://wheelgun.blogspot.com/2007/12/finally-more-women-are-getting.html

More women pack heat The average woman cannot defend herself from the average rapist without some method to "equalize" the situation. Add more than one attacker to the mix, and the problem becomes much worse.
Fueled by crime fears and fading stereotypes about gun owners, [Ms. Bunch] and other women increasingly are opting to carry concealed weapons six years after Michigan reformed laws making it easier to do so.

Permit applications have steadily declined among men after a surge in the first two years the law changed.

They fell for years among women as well, but are rising again. Women may set a record for statewide applications this year, and they're flooding ranges and prompting Wayne County [that's Detroit, Z-Deb] and other training facilities to host "women-only" permit classes.
The police cannot protect you against the rapists of the world, nor can they protect you against abusive stalkers, restraining orders notwithstanding. This is not meant as a dig against police, but a recognition of the circumstances under which the police work. "When seconds count, police are minutes away," even assuming you can call 911 before the crime occurs. Defense falls to you. In those few seconds you have to stop an assault, you are on your own.

A firearm will not make you invincible of course. There are no guarantees in this life, but if you are unprepared you will have no chance. If you are defenseless, then you will be a victim.

The problem with the ladies in my opinion is their entire attitude when it comes to the subject of self defense .

In my younger days I made no qualms of it being known I was "And still am' fiercely Progun/Pro self defense .

I have had perhaps a half dozen female friends or girlfriends of friends ask me for advice to either protect themselves or their friends from attack especially when they must use underground parking garages .

In each and every case after listing the typical PC stuff like whistles or trying to travel in groups etc etc when I would get to any kind of device that could inflict serious damage to an attacker much less deadly force by using a knife or gun I would always get the same tired old line from these people .

"I/she doesn't want to hurt any1 or go to jail for carrying that "

They don't want to have themselves ravished by animals yet they don't want to consider a truly effective way to fight off an attack either especial if it is multiple attackers by inflicting harm to them .

In the last 10-15 years I have become so disgusted with this attitude I refuse to waste my time giving women advice on this subject and tell em to go ask cops , rape centers or search the internet .

A firearm is only effective if you are willing to shoot to kill. Carrying a firearm without that resolve is no better than carrying a heavy pocketbook.

My step-daughter is one of those women that would rather be violated than to take another's life. She is otherwise an intelligent young woman and has a black belt in Ishinru. She joins her peers in her attitudes about weapons and has never been a victim, other than petty theft. I dread the day her mind is changed.
My daughter carries a switchblade ( a Mel Pardue that I gave her) and is quick to use it in her defense and has had to use it on at least two occasions to extricate herself from an attack. My daughter and step-daughter are both 30 years old.

If switchblades run afoul of local laws I might have a viable option. Take a look at the CRKT B.U.L.L. lockback. It has a nifty little feature that lets me pop out the blade with my thumb as fast as a switchblade. Not the usual single hand thumb notch but rather a spur on the "wrong" side where the blade pivots. More than once while opening it people have asked if it was a switchblade or spring loaded. But it is neither, just an ingenious mechanism. I have used the standard "assisted" open blades and they are cumbersome comparatively. It is not an expensive knife either around $30 so you won't feel bad about actually using it daily. It sits in my pocket sometimes with coins and not a scratch on it. Not a "show off" knife but an excellent performing workhorse knife. It also won't get you in trouble but still open extremely fast.
