If you remember the move from Hell last year then you'll think I am crazy, but, I am doing it again. The 20 acres on my south fence sold last summer. The guy who bought it has been after me to sell him my house and 10 acres. I own half of a 15 acre lake and that is what he is interested in. I told him 3 or 4 times that I wasn't interested in selling.

Finally last month he called again and asked what it would take to make it worth my while. I threw out an unreasonably high figure and thought that would be the last I would hear from him. Wrong! He came back with a counter offer just slightly less, still way more than it is worth. So I can't turn it down.

We close on my house the 15th of Jan., but, I put it in the contract that I have till the 10th of Feb. to move out.

I already found a place to buy. More remote of course. I found 60 acres of mostly timber, with a small pond, seasonal creek, and a view from the top of the property that would make a beautiful painting. Looks like somewhere in Colorado. It has a Double wide trailer house on it with over 1800 sq. ft. We can live comfortably there for a couple of years while we build a house. Now we are pouring over design books. I have always wanted to build a log home. That is the way we are leaning.

So I am going to be pretty busy the next few weeks. Everyone cross your fingers that this time will go a lot smoother than the last!!
I'll post updates. And some pics later.

Since I work in real estate, I love this story. When something is not for sale, then you can make a ton of money when someone wants what you have. I have run into this many times. The hardest part for the seller is when they throw out a number the think no one would consider then the person says, "OK". It makes you think you should have asked for even more. Its a fine line. Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered.

    Congrats on sale. [touchdown]

I'll probably do the kit. Build the "weather tight shell" . They put up the walls, roof, sub floor, doors and windows. Then I'll be the general contractor and sub out the interior work.Do a little at a time and pay as I go. I figure 2 years to complete.

Got to stay ahead of that urban sprawl.
Everytime I come back from the city I visibly relax as soon as I get to the outskirts and start seeing woods.

    Update

Had the closing on the sale of my house today. No problems. Everything went smooth. Guy buying it showed up with a cashiers check. No financing. Geez, wish I had his kind of bucks. Never even had the property appraised. I think he is a developer. Or in partners with one. This area is really growing and if he lotted out the 30 acres he now owns (20 on my S. fence and my 10 now) he could probably tripple his investment.

I don't care what he does with it. I have a big fat check in my pocket and 60 acres waiting for me.

I close on the new place next Thur., but it is just formality now. Loans approved and have the down payment in my pocket.
Went to lowes and to Barnes and Nobles today and bought $200 worth of design books, floorplans, log home living etc.

We're going to start finalizing all the details we want to incorporate into the house we're going to build. Then take it to an architect and have the plans drawn up.

We get started building I'll post the work in progress.
