Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani, 34, has been in prison since October 2009, and the appeal of his death sentence was rejected by the Iranian Supreme Court on June 28, 2011. He is to be executed by hanging. If the death sentence is carried out, it will be the first court-ordered execution of a Christian in Iran in 20 years. “At this time, there is no more action that can be done inside of Iran to overturn this sentence,” a VOM contact said. “It can be carried out at any time. The only options right now are to immediately and swiftly bring international attention to the issue.” Nadarkhani, a pastor from Rasht, about 750 miles northwest of Tehran, was arrested in October 2009 after he protested a government policy that required children, including his 8- and 9-year-old sons, to study the Quran in school. Nadarkhani told school officials that the Iranian constitution allows for freedom of religious practice. As a result of his protest, secret police called him before a political tribunal and arrested him for protesting. The charges were later amended to apostasy and evangelism of Muslims. Nadarkhani was tried on Sept. 21–22, 2010, by the 1st Court of the Revolutionary Tribunal and sentenced to death on Nov. 13 for apostasy. Nadarkhani is imprisoned in Lakan prison, where authorities have used various methods, including medication, to convert him back to Islam, according to Present Truth Ministries. After Nadarkhani refused to convert to Islam, his wife was arrested, put on trial without an attorney and sentenced to life in prison. She was later released after an attorney appealed her sentence. "The supreme court has annulled the death sentence and sent the case back to the court in Rasht, asking the accused to repent," Mohammad Ali Dadkhah said. The court’s decision will lift the death sentence only if Youcef recants his Christian faith. It is not clear what will happen if he does not recant. Youcef’s lawyer was also sentenced on Sunday to nine years in jail and a 10-year ban on practicing law or teaching at university for "actions and propaganda against the Islamic regime".[/FONT] --

Personally i dislike proselitizing in any form... other than the way you live your life... anything that someone says is not very likely to make me change my religious beliefs especially some nut beating me over the head with a bible... That said i respect everyones right to practice their religion as long as they don't try to denegrate another religion or mine... No ministry has a lock on god... As to the individual being charged for his beliefs this was a personal descision on his part he understood what would probably happen and has chosen to do this to either make a point or stir the pot as many fanatics do.... I respect his wished to do as he pleases and wish him the best but don't feel thet the US should spend it's political capital on this single case... I will pray for him and respect him for his beliefs but thats as far as i go.... YMMV
anyplace that religion controls the govt there will be persecution against any and all other religions dont say it wont or cant happen just look at history, look at how each religion spends so much time belittling or demeaning every other religion and tries to gain converts im sorry but i find religious groups in general to be the least christ-like of any group of people
When your religion and law (shari 'ah) are one in the same, this will be the result...every time. Radical/fundamentalist Islam lays out, somewhat schizophrenically, what behaviors are expected, condoned, and prohibited. Being a Christian is prohibited by law and has a given sentence (death). There is no mystery here. The schizophrenia part allows them to pick and choose their behavior...as long as that behavior centers around Islam (e.g., they acknowledge Jesus'/Isa's existence and stress no compulsion towards any religion, and allow you to practice other religions (dhimmi) if you pay a tax, but, in reality, intolerance abounds and any of these behaviors will probably land you in big trouble). Religious freedom or tolerance of non-muslims is just lip-service anti-Christian commies in this country like to bring up when they're faced with the fact that there is really no choice in the Muslim world. The phrase "religion of peace" denies the facts/history of the behavior of Muslims. Ever see a Buddhist go kill a bunch of people to prove a point? The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.
People who convert to other religions are often killed in muslim countries--even their own children. Hard to understand that kind of fanaticism. Just owning a Bible can get you a year's prison sentence(or worse) and offering a muzzie one can get you a death sentence. They are NOT a peaceful religion.

According to Shira law, the most severe Muslim law, it is acceptable and right for family members or any Muslim to execute anyone converting from Islam, especially to Christianity. So, in releasing him, he's been released into a pool of piranha, so to speak. But, because of international pressure, evidently the courts didn't want bad publicity, so did the next "best thing" in their thinking--"throw him to the wolves", or piranha. In the UK, pastors are having their bank accounts closed, their churches closed, and are even arrested, for not speaking well of homosexuality, or hiring homosexuals. A Christian couple was recently denied the right to adopt a child because they said they would not teach the child about homosexuality. There is no home schooling in the UK, and as early as age 5, the public school children are being taught about explicit sex, including homosexuality. Little girls have to dress in the fashion mode, which is close to being dressed like little prostitutes, or their parents accused of being "cultish". Being "cultish", even in America, is often exemplified by people who dress modestly. There are over 40 countries in our world where Christians and Jews are persecuted for their faith. Some countries are brutal against believers--Communist countries, Muslim countries and Roman Catholic countries. But, in G-8 countries, where the Bible is called a "hate crime book" and Christians and Jews are persecuted for doing right, we are seeing a new wave of evil that will grow and grow into a world monster. Before long anyone who has faith in the blood of the Lamb for their salvation and is born of the Spirit, who loves the Word, and practices it, will be a target for sadistic and cruel treatment. Anyone who sides with Judah will be treated in Muslim fashion. In Europe, during the Jewish purge because they were accused of starting the Bubonic Plague, Jews were burned alive at the stake, but Christians who stood with the Jews were tortured severely before being burned alive. The Report: Iranian Pastor Death Sentence Annulled: The Iranian Supreme Court overturned the death sentence for Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani, age 32, on Sunday. Just a few days before, the court had upheld Nadarkhani's conviction, according to human rights groups. Now the death sentence has been annulled, but the court also wants Nadarkhani to renounce his conversion from Islam to Christianity. Nadarkhani converted to Christianity when he was 19 and acts as a house pastor for a small community of evangelical believers in Iran. Nadarkhani is not out of danger. The Iranian government expects him to recant his Christian faith. The excellent news, however, is that God is building His Church even in the middle of Iranian persecution. There are evangelical house churches in Iran! Nadarkhani has not yet been executed. The evangelical community he pastors fervently prays for him, and there are thousands of fellow Christians now learning about Nadarkhani's predicament (like us) willing and able to join them in intercession. As the case comes to light, international pressure is generated for Iran to follow the religious freedom written into its own constitution. Andrew Johnston, advocacy director of Christian Solidarity Worldwide spoke out on Nadarkhani's defense, saying, "CSW is gravely concerned about the judicial process in Pastor Nadarkhani's case and the precondition to recant his faith.
