If I say "when I was the Queen of England", have I lied or merely "misspoken"? I guess it depends if I'm a high profile politician running for the US Senate.

Dick Blumenthal, CT AG, has, on several occasions, said "when I served in Vietnam" when, actually, he was a member of the USMC Reserve and never served a day of active duty. He joined the reserves after his 5th deferment.

    Now he says he "misspoke"

""On a few occasions, I have misspoken about my service and I regret that and I take full responsibility," Blumenthal said Tuesday. But he described those remarks as "absolutely unintentional," and said the mistake has only happened a few times out of "hundreds" of addresses he's given. "

Thumbs down on the lying sack of crap. But, he shouldn't look on this as any type of setback .... all he needs now is a proper introduction to the whitehouse administration. He should fit right in. Except for the race thing if his tan is lacking. Hey, I know it ain't PC to make cracks about the Blackhouse, .... but if it walks like a duck ....

I think he's finished, in more ways than one. There are enough military and ex military (particularly VN vets that actually served in country) in CT that his presence in a public position is risky. Real vets take that sort of posturing VERY badly.

You'd think so, wouldn't you but alas "Blumenthal chose to hold his press conference at a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Blumenthal, who was invited to appear at the VFW, was surrounded by veterans who applauded and cheered him as he spoke and loudly scolded reporters who asked critical questions. One reporter who asked whether Blumenthal thinks he should apologize was shouted down. "
