You are bidding on a used like new Socom-16. The rifle has only had about 20 rounds run thru it. The 16” version of the venerable M1A can be an effective close quarters battle rifle or just a great “ranch gun”. This rifle has the minimum length barrel for a rifle under federal law. It has a proprietary muzzle brake, Tritium front sight and a forward-mounted scope base that is ideal for electronic sights or other accessories.

Talk you out of it.... hmmm, let's see.

    They aren't accurate
    They're ugly
    308 is underpowered
    They break down constantly
Rumor has it that they cause erectile dysfunction.

Now that your not interested in this obvious piece of junk, I'll go place my bid. ;)

Obviously kidding.... Actually, I love'em, I would like to have one by the end of this year, but I think I'm going to go with the "scout" model instead of the "socom". The scout has an 18" bbl instead of the socoms 16". I'd like to try them both first though. If you haven't checked out Springfield Armory's site, it's worth it. They've got some pretty cool models.

They are nice, very nice. With the libs having some power, and with attempts to renew the Assault Weapons Ban I am thinking about a couple of purchases. I really like the .308 too. I have yet to find that "perfect rifle", but I bet the SOCOM 16 would be close.

Brother, that's exactly what I've been thinkin. Stockpile a couple while I still can.

Do you think it would be a good idea to buy them used from someone though, so there is no paper trail?

It's good when you can, but that opportunity doesn't always present itself. Not to mention that on AR's you can the new ones just as cheap as the used ones. The SOCOMs are a little different though. You just have to watch for them on gunboards like http://www.glocktalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=39 and http://www.m-14forum.com/upload/forumdisplay.php?f=39 and you can find some deals.

I will probably pick up one or two of these instead.
