Dear friends, Every year I buy three 1 pound bags of cranberries. This year I bought the same only to realize the bags are now just 12 oz in size. Price is about the same so that is 25% price increase. Oceanspray, you suck! You friend, Clyde, who now has to make a 3rd run to the store.
*points over at Visu's post about Bacon* Besides, I bought 5 1 pound bags on sale (after T-Day) 2 years ago (when they were 16 ounce bags). Tossed them in the freezer. I am good for 1 more year. Then I'll buy bulk cranberries from Sams. I bet the 48 ounce bag (3 pounds) is down to 36 ounces. Cranberry bog ROBBERY I tell ya. Damn Yanks.

INFLATION The Dollar of 1913, Start of the "Federal Reserve", is now worth about three (3) Cents---Whops! a copper penny is now replaced with a funny metal token representing a devalued funny money paper certificate---- it all figures as the Cost of Living does not include food or fuel; however, dead people do not need food nor fuel so only dead people deserve the funny money but we the living must have a sound basis of purchase or exchange if we are to thrive--- but then again if we do not receive current governmental "assistance" , we are unworthy of needing real money, real honesty, real protection, real governmental representation WE must know that we, the thinkers, have been placed into fiscal survival scenario and must prep and plan accordingly. You've left people who just saw your headline with the idea that this particular company has earned your disdain, when they are doing nothing more than adapting to business conditions caused by our voting choices. If they suck that's fine, but this does not make a case for it.
Mmmm yes, and no. Yes, there is rampant inflation and a drop in the value of our currency. No this is not the reason for the smaller or deceptive packaging. This is a trend gaining much practice in the recent years (not just since Obottom hit office, Idahoser). When you run a company and you can take 25% of your product out of a package, change only the weight notation, and maintain your profit margin - thereby preserving the jobs you do offer in a community, you are actually doing the best business you can. If you reduce your content by 25%, maintain your profit margin and lay off 1/4 or 1/3 of your work force to increase the profit margin and make more money in a down economy, you lost my business. The ultimate cause of this? Raw materials costs. Production costs. Fuel costs. These things are, indeed, affected by inflation. They are also affected by supply and demand cycles. Check the margins on raw goods just for this year. Check them out for the past 20 years. The market - specifically the Commodities Exchange - plays a big role in the pricing of these raw goods. Petroleum (used in EVERYTHING - damn near, from fuel to fertilizer), steel, coal, wood, any and every raw material that goes into the production of any given finished good, up to and including food is affected by these margins. Oh, yeah, you can't VOTE the idiots on the CME out. Your vote MIGHT garner some controls on the Stock and Exchange markets. Then again, all of our voting in the last Congressional election got us exactly nothing. Time for a reset.
