As I unplug a bit I find using the Postal service and paper checks or money orders over credit/debt cards, paypal ect. a much better way of completing my transactions. I will be stocking up on forever stamps before the 26th... ...................................... Postal regulators on Tuesday approved a price hike of 3 cents for a first-class stamp, bringing the charge to 49 cents a letter. The new price is effective Jan. 26 and will last no more than two years, allowing the Postal Service to recoup $2.8 billion in losses.
I saw in an article that they were using the 2008 economic downturn as justification to make up for the revenue loss (6 years later?!). They should have just said that the loss was due to the fact that the internet, email and chat have made their medium outdated, except for bills and spam.
US postal rates are still some of the cheapest in the world. Plus the system is very reliable. In the Ukraine complains that it cost 3x as much over there and you may very well never receive the letter. Anyone remember the Italian mail rail car that caught on fire? Cost to send a Christmas card in (not US to Finland, but internally) Finland a year ago was 1.2 Euro. A first class letter in Canada costs 63 cents. Yep, our postal rates are CHEEEEEP! Plus with the falling value of the dollar, it's getting cheaper every day!
Postal rates in Canada are going up to $1.00CAD per stamp, close to doubling in price. And they have pulled all the permanent "forever stamps" from sale so you can't even stock up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
