Aloha Gang, I'll offer this here first for anyone who knows and appreciates these old lanterns and fine Swiss quality.... don't worry I've got my own and extras... Included is 3 genuine Petromax mantles... (burn them from the top so they shrink up and don't get messed up if they hit anything when you burn them from the bottom - they are longer than normal) Cool blow torch fast light on these old lanterns... Beautiful chrome finish... It's been test fired but that's about it.... Take a look around and I don't think you'll find one like this... and at this price.... You'll be handing this down to your kids and them to theirs and them to theirs etc... $200 for the appreciative Monkeys... plus whatever shipping comes out to... I'll ship the glass globe separately... probably around $40 to the USA only.... Nice thing about these is that parts are still available and swap with the Petromax... who took this over.... Thanks for looking.... Have a wonderful week! Take Care and God Bless, Bear
Great Deal! I have one and can say it's one of the best in the world. Note, you can purchase side reflectors and a large top reflector that works well to keep the light where you want it. Along with the top reflector you purchase a carrying case for the large reflector. HK
Coleman pump up VS propane lanterns on a blood trail. : Blood Trailing • Deer & Deer Hunting Forums Beautiful, but what is different between this and a Coleman, such as the one I'm using for this test?
Thanks @Tobit .... start a conversation with me if you are serious Have a great day! Take Care and God Bless, Bear
White gas versus Kerosene for one @kellory Kerosene is less volatile and expensive. It is more easily accessible in larger quantities for all your needs and stores better ... IMHO... but won't go into great detail... start a thread and I'll participate... Bigger mantles.... at least the ones I have compared.... Also don't know what your CP is on the Coleman... this is a 500CP kerosene lantern.... Hope that helps... Take Care and God Bless, Bear
Yup... what @HK_User said... parts in general are available for this as it is interchangeable with the Petromax currently being produced....
Parts are available for the Coleman as well. (I had to rebuild it for the test.) I saw the pretty pictures, but missed the spec sheet.
No spec sheet was given or shown... if I had it I would taken a picture... that's the known cp for this lantern... Hope that helps.
I use Coleman and always have, always will. That said I've known people who have gone the Optimus route and they are light years ahead of coleman in performance and quality. Sometimes you get what you pay for but with this particular pressure kero lantern you get the best there is. Hate to say it because it's in such pristine shape but I hope whoever gets it will use it. They will get many years of great service from it.
I've always used Coleman in both the fuel version and propane, but how does this compare to the aladdin kerosene mantel lantern, which I also have several of... my only complaint with the aladdin is that if you don't watch it, you will have a flame up the chimney. Rancher
I haven’t seen an Aladdin lantern. The Aladdin mantle lamps are not nearly as bright as the Optimus lantern. The Optimus is a pressurized system with a whiter light than the Aladdin lamps were. The Aladdins are certainly far brighter than flat wick lamps but the Optimus output is much closer to a Coleman gas lantern.
The Aladdin mantle lamps were designed as a replacment for the older wick lamps. Since Aladdin lamps do not flicker they provide an even light and when used with a shade they are superior to most other lamps for reading or general lighting within a home. OTOH Coleman and all other pressurized high out put lamps also put out a very bright light and in this process (no free lunch) they also produce a considerable amount of heat, all depends on their CP/BTU. Heat might be good in a cold cabin but any who have sat around a Coleman in the aftermath of Hurricane can tell you how much heat was added to the 100% humidity. OTOH, petomax and others have a shield that converts those Lanterns into heaters.
Awright, chu guys, the thread is about Bear's sale of his Optimus lantern. Comparos aren't really necessary here, but sure would be beneficial in their own thread. How about someone setting up a thread for it?
