Hey there, For those of you who do not know where I live, Its up north of wherever you are, unless you are in Alaska. Then I am south of you.
Thats right folks I live in the great Socialist country called Canada, where a great deal of you will end up moving to when the new government tries to ban firearms completely (or the freshly born special government zone of Montana).

Here is what I want to ask of you guys. Is there anyone out there who lives in a un-prohibited state (someplace that allows the shipment of 30 round mags) , who would be willing to take the AR magazines that I order, and place a pin in them to make them only 5 rounders (the legal limit up here, unless I get RRA mags because the Canadian government considers them pistol magazines so they get 10 round mags, go figure eh?)?

Id love to get them because they look so cool and is actually more cost effective.
If its possible Id like to be able to work something out with someone.
    Thanks folks.

That type of mag like for california is called a 10/30 mag. You put inside the mag a limiting item like a block and then rivet the floorplate to that block so that you cant remove the floor plate or the block. but if the laws change then you would have to use tools to dissassemble and then you have the 30 round cap. Only part about shrinking it down to 5 rds is that the spring may suffer weakening alot quicker but its a guess on my part.

Lol, Well I know the tools I need to change the magazines into 5 rounders, however I dont have anyplace to ship them to. As I only have family in California.
The way its done is by drilling a hole In the magazine at the five round mark and making them stop there in the feeding process. I think a simple catch might do it.

MDL66, There is actually nothing illegal or sketchy in what I am doing. In fact its quite the opposite. I am taking illegal magazines and making them a legitimate magazine available to use in my region. It is cheaper to buy the thirty round magazines because there is a surplus of them from government issue.
    Take this for an example

    vs

Ill spend the lesser and get more. thank you very much.
Also have you tried to get mag pouches for a five rounder? They don't make them and I don't want one. I'll take the good milspec 30 round mag pouches.

Can't imagine the intricate laws involved in modifying and (Internationally) exporting banned firearms parts.Nah gonnah dough it; wouldn't be prudent... and if you/lose one/sell one to a buddy who pulls the pin...Sorry Bad idea( us batf is known for not playing fair or respecting anyones best intentions)....

never said it would be a temporary fix. It would be a perminant's welding job. I never meant to give off the feeling that it would be a temp. job.
Well dont worry about it then guys. Was wondering bout it, thats all.

The ATF here has been known to grind off welds so they could claim something was a temp thing when they had a full auto with parts welded in place to make it semi auto then charge the person with haveing a full auto.

Especialy sinceits haveing to go international I doubt many will want to risk messing with 2 such agencies but good luck. If you have family in Cali and they are close to the boarder they might be able to get a PO box outside Cali and take care of it there.

I'veseen the same info about batf "inspecting" weapons for court proceedings which involved grinders and a saw...if they can make it illegal again with a few tools, , so could the defendant.Go directly to jail do not pass go do not collect$200...I.E. checking for a properly silver soldered muzzle brake with a pipe wrench and a 4 foot pipe over the handle.:(

I cannot imagine that it would be illegal to "pin" (welded or otherwise) here in the states, if the mags are legal in the state. I suppose we could find someone to do it, but the odds of one of us shipping them to you is zero for all the above reasons. On the other hand, it might get done here and you could come get them and do the import thing yourself. (Before this goes any further, it cannot be me, I can't weld thin materials, and have real problems with the heavy stuff.) That all said, I think pinning a really bad idea, and apt to result in reliability problems. Plug the bottoms with wood and cut the springs to suit.

Or better yet. Sell out and move away from there. Who would voluntarily live in a state/country with such a dumbass law.

No slam to Canadians intended. Just don't understand the mindset of staying somewhere that is so restrictive of a persons personal rights. I left Kali partly for that reason. But then, there are getting fewer and fewer places here to retreat to.

I know several Canadians who come down to train at Tactical Response.

What he outlined is perfectly legal...

    They do it.

As for him moving here. here in the US we don't want motavated, freedom loving canadians with skills.
    We want unskilled Mexicans, Hagies...

And our emigration regs bear that out.

/actually I am a yank through and through. But thanks for the vote of confidence Nomad.

I stand properly chastised for a silly and "dumb" question. It was written and responded to with little fore thought of how I could do it without involving others. I have since figured away to do it legally and on my own.

Thank you very much for your interest. I call this topic Closed.

"No problemo" ...just didn't want some young enterprising monkey to jump in with both feet; with out the benefit of foreknowledge of just how far the U.S. batf is willing to go to obtain convictions on basically groundless charges.
