OK, just throwing this out there, not sure how much help I'm going to get. My FIL just gave me a non-working pistol he found while mowing his yard a few years ago. There is no magazine, the firing pin spring is mangled, the "slide spring" (spring and guide rod under the barrel) is missing completely, and the extractor is gone.

What I do know about the pistol is this. Markings on the slide say this:
    Pistolet Automatique "YDEAL"

There are also some stamps under the name but other than the star I can't describe what they are. There is also s serial number that matches on both the slide and the receiver.

This is a small pocket gun, maybe a .32 caliber (there are no markings for the caliber, but it is bigger than a .22)

I did a quick net search, but it did not reveal anything. On Wed I'm going to bring it to work (gun range) and see if there is anything in our books on it.

Other than it being french, anybody have any clues about this pistol?

    I'd bet most likely it's a 32acp found below
    http://www.triplek.com/Pages/Magazines/index.cfm/gun_magazine_detail/870

    or the 25acp found here
    http://www.triplek.com/Pages/Magazines/index.cfm/gun_magazine_detail/873

    both actually made in Spain

    or

Does it look like a Browning 1903? http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg118-e.htm

The Pistolet Automatique de 7 millim.65 genre "Ruby" is a simplified copy of the Browning 1903 that was made by Fabrique Nationale in Belgium, which was easy to produce and relatively inexpensive. The pistol is a simple blowback weapon with an internal hammer, in 7.65mm (32 ACP) caliber, and had a nine round magazine. the biggest changes was in the safety mechanism and the elimination of the grip safety.

Damn... Quigly beat me to it while I was researching :)

    Dang, y'all are good :D

I was going to post a pic, but I could not find the digital camera, and I didn't think the 35mm camera would work too well for posting on the net:D

Blackjack got it, I think it's the .32acp. At least everything matches, even the grips.

Thanks guys, I knew I could count on y'all!!

    Hi All,
I'm new to this forum and wanted to say, "hi." On 10-23-2006, 11:09 PM, [IMG] Quigley_Sharps
Posted the above images of the SPANISH PISTOLET AUTOMATIQUE 6.35 CAL.-1921.
I recently picked one up at a local gun shop for pretty cheap. It was a bit dirty and needed some cleaning. I stumbled upon this forum and was pleased to see it. I'm having difficulty taking it apart for cleaning. I'm able to quarter twist the barrel out with the slide part slid back. But the "screw" below the engaged barrel doesn't twist. Can someone please help?
    TIA

I just got the .25 given to me today, with most of a box of Federal ammo for it. It looks to be in good shape. It's definitely all there (mag included) and cycles easily. The trigger pull is just short of a ton, but crisp, with no creep and no "notchiness". I won't have a chance to shoot it for a while, but I'm definitely looking forward to it.
Does anyone know the history of the make and model? The previous owner, a woman who was stationed with her family in Greece (at least, unknown where else) said she'd been told it was used in the Spanish Civil War, but didn't differentiate in her comment between THIS gun, and the make/model in general, so I don't know which she meant.

Sorry. I forgot this part of my message. Thanks for the link to the disassembly instructions. She kept it in a box, and it's lightly oiled and clean, but I don't know if it has been cleaned, or not. I'm pretty sure, without counting the rounds in the box, that it was fired at least once. So I'm assuming it is in as good a shape as it looks (very, but not spotless. No rust at all, no pitting anywhere I can see), but probably, despite the fact that Federal is clean-shooting, good quality ammo, it will need a good cleaning inside and out. If not right away, then soon after I first shoot it.
