You must realize that in a real social upheaval, when the brunt of us revert to the Stone Ages, there will still be Communities of high-tech post apocalyptic society, maybe the Illuminiti or masonic or religious or political or Fema, or Military or Police; my point is that some social order will emerge and it will be very feudal in context. There will be extremely defined layers of cast and democracy will probably not play much of a part in it.
While most of us are preparing for individual and small group survival, not many seem to be considering how events will restructure in a social manner. I was thinking along to lines of an ant farm and it depresses me when I recognize the reality of what will transpire in stages, by necessity. Liberty will take a far distant second place to the needs of the proletariat and you have to admit, we have let the leaders vote themselves bread and circuses for so long, that most of us think it is supposed to be that way. I know that some will rattle their sabers and make testosterone filled cold dead hand ******** statements, but I am interested in the real thoughts from those of you with half a brain or more

I too believe that if the SHTF in a very big way, that Humanity would wind up living in various independent 'city states' like in the early Greco-Roman times. The 'Warlord' commanding each such metropolitan center would rule his subjects, and have them plowing the local lands. He and his close cronies would live high on the work of the serfs. Some modern ammenities would survive, thought he capability of rebuilding and servicing them would gradullay die out. Eventually various devices and comforts we take for granted would become the stuff of stories.

Meanwhile out in the wilderness, the Free Peoples live a simpler existence. The cityfolk would soon have stories of the horrors of 'Indian Land'......

I think the only thing on a personal level we can do is prepare the best we can for our families, friends and local communities. If what you are saying happens there isn't a lot we can do about it anyways other than learning as much as possible now and if things ever get lie you say then finding like minded freedom loving communities will be the best bet, then work to strengthen these communities.

Don't get stuck somewhere with a group of little hitler wanna be's running it in other words.

If you think it through a bit, it isn't a matter of choice for the most part. Take New Orleans, post Katrina. People were moved pretty much where they were told to go, disarmed, stuffed into aluminum boxes and fed packaged food. Anyone that rocked the boat too much was jailed or shot. This was a localized area, expand it nation, no, world wide and let go the mad max fantasy for a bit and realize that the world as we know it isn't going to come to a screeching halt, it will morph into whatever comes next that the hordes mandate.
